Now that the curtain has come down on "The Cathedral of Counter-Strike", fans are eagerly looking forward to the CS2 teams participating in IEM Rio 2024. This reputed IEM tournament is scheduled from October 7, 2024, to October 13, 2024, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

16 teams across different regions (NA, Europe, and Asia) will gather at the Farmasi Arena (playoff stage) to clinch the accolade alongside a massive prize pool of US$250,000. While some organizations were invited as ESL Partner teams, others got in based on their ESL World Rankings. The remaining slots will be open for the champions of ESL’s regional qualifiers.

As of this writing, 13 teams have been announced for the upcoming IEM Rio 2024. From the list of participating teams, five organizations were invited based on their ESL rankings, and six others for being ESL Partners.

Among the remaining five slots, Rare Atom has qualified by winning the Asian Qualifier, beating TYLOO in the Grand Final. Meanwhile, paiN Gaming will also have the chance to participate in IEM Rio 2024 following their flawless win against Imperial Esports in the South American Qualifier. The remaining three slots will be filled after the conclusion of the North American and European Qualifiers in the upcoming months.

Format of IEM Rio 2024

Unlike Cologne 2024, IEM Rio 2024 will not conduct a play-in stage as only 16 teams will participate in the prestigious tournament. The tournament will start with group-stage matches featuring two groups (A and B). Both groups will consist of eight teams. The winner of the prestigious IEM Rio 2024 will directly qualify for the IEM Katowice 2025.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of the classic IEM format:

• There will be two groups and each group will consist of eight teams.
• The tournament’s opening matches will follow the classic Bo1 (Best of 1) format.
• The rest of the matches including the playoffs stage will follow the standard Bo3 (Best of 3) format.
• Both winners from each group will directly qualify for the Rio 2024 Semifinals, while the second and third-rankers will enter the Quarterfinals stage with High and Low seeds respectively.
• Following previous IEM trends, the playoff stage will follow the Single Elimination bracket criteria.
