5) Legionnaires

Ideologies: Progress, Equality, Tradition

The Legionnaires shine in the early game, offering Prefabs that are essential for rapid city expansion. If you can rally them across multiple districts, the Prefabs they provide can give you a significant advantage before your Industrial Districts are fully operational.

However, their utility drops off sharply in the late game when you’re capable of producing Prefabs on your own. Their ability to provide Guard Squads is also redundant later on when you can create your own via Watchtowers. The Legionnaires are best used as a short-term ally, and switching to the Proteans later on can be a better long-term strategy.

  • Best for: Early-game expansion and construction. Their long-term impact is limited, so they’re best for quick bursts of growth before switching to a more powerful faction.

4) Technocrats

Ideologies: Progress, Equality, Reason

The Technocrats are an exceptional faction for reducing Materials Demand, a crucial ability when resources like wood and iron are in short supply. Their research speed boost is appealing, but their real value lies in their ability to stretch limited resources and make your city more efficient in lean times.

They also support the All Do Maintenance Law, which further reduces the need for materials, helping you preserve precious supplies. However, their focus on Equality can sometimes hold back your city’s income potential, especially when paired with Progress factions that prioritize productivity. Overall, the Technocrats are best suited to resource-scarce environments, where their frugality and efficiency can keep your city alive.

  • Best for: Players dealing with resource scarcity and those looking to maximize the efficiency of limited materials. They are essential for surviving on maps with few natural resources.

3) Venturers

Ideologies: Progress, Merit, Reason

The Venturers are Frostpunk 2’s hard-nosed capitalists, dedicated to maximizing the city’s productivity. They shine in boosting Heatstamp income, an essential resource for maintaining high levels of production. Their bonuses stack well with Merit Laws and other productivity-boosting abilities, ensuring that your city runs efficiently.

However, their Guard Squad ability is outclassed by other Progress factions, making them less versatile in terms of defense. The Venturers are excellent for creating an economically efficient city, but they lack some of the survivability and adaptability found in other factions like the Icebloods or Proteans.

  • Best for: Players focused on building an efficient, high-output city driven by economic productivity. While strong in terms of resource generation, their defensive capabilities and overall adaptability are weaker.

2) Icebloods

Ideologies: Adaptation, Merit, Tradition

The Icebloods are a survivalist faction with a key focus on food production and thriving in the Frostland. Their abilities act as a free Food District, continuously supplying food to the city, which is critical in a game where hunger is a constant threat. Their Rallies, which include feats like polar bear wrestling, provide even more food, making them essential when your city is on the brink of starvation.

Additionally, they excel in expeditions, ensuring your survival in the harsh wilderness. While they occasionally clash with factions like the Technocrats, their ability to keep your people fed and alive outweighs these minor conflicts.

  • Best for: Players focused on survival, food production, and expeditionary success. The Icebloods are crucial when starvation is a real threat and resources are scarce.

1) Overseers

Ideologies: Progress, Merit, Tradition

The Overseers are one of the most powerful factions in Frostpunk 2, dominating through sheer industrial capacity. Their Overdrive Output ability maximizes resource extraction, making them unmatched in production. When paired with Progress buildings like Deep Melting Drills and Worker's Dormitories, the Overseers can burn through surface deposits quickly, allowing you to unlock the city’s full industrial potential.

Their ability to squeeze every bit of coal and oil out of the ground ensures that your city remains operational and self-sufficient, even under the harshest conditions. While their methods are grimy and harsh, they provide the raw power needed to ensure the city's survival.

  • Best for: Players who prioritize industrial efficiency and raw resource extraction. If your goal is to maximize production and maintain a self-sufficient city, the Overseers are unbeatable.
