Iconic historical figures who might appear in Assassin's Creed Shadows

Assassin's Creed Shadow's reveal trailer showcased the most iconic historical figure from the Sengoku Jidai period, Oda Nobunaga himself. The gunpowder warlord will surely appear in the game as he is one of the chief players in unifying Japan.

Yasuke, one of the protagonists of the game has records of serving Nobunaga, we will likely get to see the Gunpowder Warlord in action as he continues his brutal campaign of unifying Japan under his banner.

2) Hattori Hanzo

When you hear the word ninja, Hattori Hanzo's name will most likely come to mind. The renowned spy made quite a name for himself during the Warring States, and we will likely see him in the game.

While we cannot predict the route his story will take if this historical figure appears in Assassin's Creed Shadows, our prediction lies with him being a master assassin of the Japanese order, and playing a mentor figure to Naoe. Ubisoft has made historical figures as assassins before; notably, Honoré Gabriel Riqueti, Comte de Mirabeau in Unity, and Mary Read in Black Flag.

3) Toyotomi Hideyoshi

In a game that portrays the Sengoku Jidai, it is highly unlikely that Ubisoft will leave out Toyotomi Hideyoshi, one of Nobunaga's key allies and the man considered one of the great unifiers of Japan.

Toyotomi will most likely be one of the historical figures we will see in Assassin's Creed Shadows, helping Nobunaga before the gunpowder warlord dies during the Honno-ji Temple incident.

4) Mitsuhide Akechi

Mitsuhide Akechi was one of the main players in changing the status quo between Oda Nobunaga and his vassal Daimiyos like Hideyoshi and Matsudaira Takechiyo. He was one of the many warlords serving under Nobunaga, but he ultimately betrayed his lord at the Honno-ji temple in Kiyoto in 1582. He later dies at the hands of Hideyoshi, who avenges his lord's death during the battle of Yamazaki.

Akechi can appear in Assassin's Creed Shadows and even serve a major role if the game portrays the Honno-ji Incident during Yasuke's storyline.

5) Matsudaira Takechiyo (Tokugawa Ieyasu)

Born Matsudaira Takechiyo, it was ultimately this historical figure who unified Japan and brought an era of peace to the country till the Meiji Restoration. Tokugawa Ieyasu is the third member of the great unifiers of the land of the rising sun and was a key ally of both Nobunaga and Hideyoshi when they reigned. He was also one of the most brilliant generals during the Azuchi-Momoyama period and formed the longest-reigning Shogunate after winning the battle of Sekigahara.

It is highly unlikely that Ubisoft will miss the chance of bringing the first Tokugawa Shogun to the game, but given the period in which Assassin's Creed Shadows takes place, he will appear as Matsudaira Takechiyo.
