Ranked list of all the Party members in Metaphor ReFantazio

8) Will

The main man (Image via Sega)
The main man (Image via Sega)

Will, the main protagonist, begins his journey as a seemingly ordinary character with no remarkable traits, yet he hides a mysterious past that unfolds through several narrative twists. Canonically named Will, he possesses the Seeker archetype, which highlights his role as an explorer of both the physical world and his own identity.

By the game’s end, you will learn that he is, in fact, the essence of the cursed Prince’s soul, living out a hidden life to avoid his royal fate. Although Will’s journey is impactful, his limited dialogue and role as the playable character often leave his character feeling distant. While the Seeker archetype offers some versatility, he lacks the unique flavor and distinct personality of the supporting cast, which places him at the bottom of the ranking.

7) Grius

He came in strong and went the same way (Image via Sega)

Grius, a dedicated and noble agent, becomes one of the earliest companions to join Will on his journey. He meets Will at the Northern Border Fort and provides many insights about the lore. Despite his importance to the story, he is a temporary ally.

As Grius does not have a unique archetype, he lacks the diversity in skills that other party members bring. Nevertheless, his sacrifice early in the game gives him a lot of good character points as he symbolizes the risks and sacrifices required in this war-torn world.

6) Basilio

A little too late to the party (Image via Sega)
A little too late to the party (Image via Sega)

Basilio is a Paripus with a big heart. However, his introduction comes way too late in the game. By the time Basilio joins, players are already heavily invested in the other members’ archetypes, stories, and bonds. As a Berserker, Basilio brings a powerful physical damage potential, making him a valuable asset in the final boss fight.

The Berserker archetype does add unique heavy-hitting skills, yet it overlaps with established roles from other party members, such as the Brawler and Warrior archetypes. Despite his limited time at the party, Basilio’s storyline, including the loss of his brother in battle, is quite interesting. However, it’s not enough to give him a higher rank.

5) Strohl

The best friend and the best boy (Image via Sega)
The best friend and the best boy (Image via Sega)

Strohl is the best friend, it’s a cliche troupe but highly effective. His character is very similar to the characters from the Persona series: Ryuji and Yosuke. However, Strohl is way more serious and disciplined in comparison. A noble-born warrior with a tragic backstory of loss, Strohl seeks justice after his home is destroyed, fueling his drive to join the knights.

While his Warrior archetype provides balanced offensive and defensive capabilities, Strohl’s straightforward approach can feel one-dimensional compared to other, more complex party members. His bond storyline, though heartfelt, sticks to familiar themes of loyalty and redemption, lacking the narrative depth found in other characters’ arcs. That is why he ended up being in the middle.

4) Eupha

Every gang needs the mysterious one (Image via Sega)

Eupha is a mystical Mustari priestess. She is the “weird one” of the group. Eupha is first introduced during the Virga Island arc, where players uncover her connection to a holy relic and watch her awaken her Summoner powers after a dramatic dragon temple encounter. Her archetype is a significant addition to the party, as the Summoner class enables her to wield high elemental damage spells and summon powerful entities.

Though she arrives later than most of the team, Eupha has enough screen time to establish herself, and her archetype remains one of the strongest in the game. Her bond storyline is full of interesting bits, especially as her people’s temple reveals glimpses of an ancient, technologically advanced civilization. Thanks to her great character development, and effectiveness in combat Eupha ended up in the top four.

3) Junah

Junah is the diva of the group. Known for her beauty and clever manipulation, she plays a crucial role as a double agent, gaining access to Louis’s army and gathering intelligence for the party. As a member of the Nidia tribe, she is full of wit and charm, which are mirrored in her Masked Dancer archetype. This archetype is particularly useful, as it allows Junah to temporarily adopt the abilities of other archetypes without needing to fully switch classes.

Though she can sometimes be a bit dramatic, Junah’s bond storyline explores her inner strength and her journey to prove herself beyond her outward charm, making her perfect for the third-best character in the game.

2) Hulkenberg

The Knight seeking her Prince (Image via Sega)

Hulkenberg is a Roussainte warrior, with a quirky habit of trying unusual foods. She first encounters the protagonist early in the story, embarking on the mission to find the Prince. Her journey is tightly interwoven with the protagonist, and her unwavering belief in the Prince’s survival forms the core of her story arc. She is similar to Casca from Berserk.

Hulkenberg’s archetype, the Knight, gives her the Tank role, and her Knight’s Proclamation skill is invaluable for drawing enemy attacks away from more vulnerable teammates. Although she doesn’t excel at dealing high damage, her resilience is unparalleled, allowing you to focus on offensive strategies while Hulkenberg guards the frontlines. Overall, she would have been the best character in the game if No. 1 didn’t exist.

1) Heismay

The G.O.A.T (Image via Sega)
The G.O.A.T (Image via Sega)

Heismay, the Eugief Shadowknight, is hands down the most interesting character in the game. His archetype as a Thief offers a unique toolkit, blending offensive dark magic, item and health stealing, and even one-hit-kill spells. These abilities, paired with his wit and laid-back demeanor, make him the coolest guy in the party.

Beyond his gameplay value, Heismay’s story is a tale of loss and redemption, as you help him confront the painful memories of his deceased son and seek peace. His bond storyline has some of the game’s most melancholic and fun moments. If you are a fan of the Game of Thrones series, then Heismay will remind you of Tyrion Lannister. And just like Tyrion, he is the best of the best in the story.
