All expected weapon changes coming in Apex Legends Season 23 Split 2

Apex Legends Season 23 Split 1 was entirely dominated by shotguns, namely the Mastiff, Peacekeeper, and the EVA-8. Whether we look at the ongoing professional scene (BLGS), or the competitive and casual sections of the game, the weapon meta in Apex has entirely shifted to using shotguns as your primary weapon for combat.

On that note, here are the potential weapon changes that we believe might surface with the upcoming Split in Apex Legends Season 23:

Shotgun nerfs

As stated above, shotguns have remained the uncontested meta weapons in the previous split of the game. We believe that with the latest update, the developers will nerf the capabilities of different shotguns in the title to promote a healthier gun meta among players.

SMG buffs

SMGs have become entirely redundant after shotguns became the primary pick for close-quarter combat in the game. If we look at the latest weapon stats of the BLGS tournament, and even the finals, we see that players have refrained from picking up even a single SMG in the game, other than the care package drop, the R-99.

We believe that a minor buff to SMGs is definitely way overdue, as they have been one of the weakest weapon classes in the game for the past two seasons. Players can expect ground loot SMGs, such as the Volt, and the C.A.R., to get tweaked and become better performing in the game.

Rifle and Marksman Weapons

For the first time in a long while, both rifles and marksman weapons in Apex Legends are currently in a balanced state. That said, some weapons, such as the R-301 AR, and the Triple Take, remain quite weak when compared to other weapons in the same class.

We believe that the developers might make a few changes to these guns to improve weapon balance. However, even if they don't, the general weapon balancing with regard to rifles and marksman weapons seems pretty solid for now.
