Anthem: Looking back at the disastrous VIP demo

Now haven't we all been here before? Another AAA game with a million-dollar budget, a paid demo with game-breaking bugs and seemingly a launch that won't be any different.

It seems EA is not willing to learn its lesson anytime soon.

Just weeks before its original launch, Bioware's take on Sci-fi multiplayer shared world shooter (in other words Destiny killer) Anthem got a VIP demo for the players who pre-ordered the game as well as the EA Origin access users.

Just like always, it didn't work out the way it was planned as if we were expecting anything else. The 3 days demo which started this Friday was full of bugs and glitches, server issues and much more.

It's seemingly the biggest of them all which made PC players stuck at the loading screen at 95% until and unless they closed the window and restarted the game, and it haunted all the players who managed to actually load the game. The rest of us were stuck because the game never started because of the server traffic.

The ones who did get the green pass from these major issues were treated with an overall unoptimised gameplay experience such as getting stuck in the environment geometry, areas not being loaded, NPC dialogues stuck and many more common issues that generally envelope such titles. Yet the developers are not conscious enough to fix them before all.

For sympathy, EA did confirm that in next week's open demo, the VIP players will get access to all the 4 Javelins in comparison to other players who will only get 2 of the javelins to try with the Ranger being the compulsory one. But is it enough?

Anthem isn't the only game to have a disastrous demo/beta with Fallout 76 being the victim of it just a few months ago.

Whatsoever be the case, if anything, we can be just optimistic that Bioware will fix most of these performance issues before the game launches on 22nd February.
