The Sentinel sniper in Apex Legends has recently gained a lot of popularity and competes with Marksman weapons like the G7 Scout and the 30-30 Repeater in the long-range meta. Despite its appearance, this sniper is quite easy to use once you get used to its bullet drop and fire rate. Moreover, it provides an option to charge the weapon, which can increase its damage output.

This article will highlight the Sentinel sniper in Apex Legends and its ability to dominate long-range gunfights.

Why is Sentinel the best long-range weapon in Apex Legends?

The Sentinel is a bolt-action sniper, which means that you can shoot only one bullet at a time, unlike the Longbow DMR or the Charge Rifle. This will limit your ability to dish out damage in quick succession. However, this con is balanced by the gun’s incredible single-bullet damage output.

You can go through this list and take a look at the different damage profiles of the Sentinel in Apex Legends:

Sentinel/DamageDischargedCharged
Head126158
Body7088
Legs6379

It is important to note that these numbers were extracted after testing the weapon out in Apex Legends’ Firing Range. The dummies were set to the highest armor level and the Sentinel was equipped with the highest-tier attachments. Although the Sniper Stock and Extended Magazine do not affect its damage output, they do increase weapon switch speed and the number of bullets in a single magazine.

The Longbow DMR recently received a small buff that increased its headshot multiplier. However, it still fails to surpass the Sentinel’s damage output. While the Charge Rifle can technically deal more damage over longer ranges, it is distance-dependent, while the Sentinel can consistently inflict the same damage - as long as you land the shots.

One of the problems with using this weapon is that you will need to carry a large quantity of Shield Cells. These cells are used to charge the gun and can only temporarily boost its damage output. The other issue is the slow movement speed while scoping in. The hipfire accuracy is not dependable enough to hit no-scopes consistently.

This can make you an easy target for opponents if you stay scoped-in for too long. We recommend you carry a fully automatic weapon in the loadout. The CAR Sub Machine Gun (SMG) or the Volt SMG are great choices to create a robust loadout alongside the Sentinel.
