Peacekeeper vs Mastiff: A brief weapon breakdown in Apex Legends

Yes, it is worth risking nine pumps with the Peacekeeper. This is primarily because it can dish out higher damage, compared to the Mastiff, when you land all the shots.

Apex Legends features a variety of weapons in its arsenal including four shotguns - Peacekeeper, Mastiff, EVA-8, and Mozambique. With the EVA-8 being inside the care package, there are only three options for the playerbase to select from ground loot. The Mozambique is a good off-drop weapon but generally fails to deliver without its Hop-Up equipped in later rounds.

That said, let us take a look at the damage profiles for both the Peacekeeper and Mastiff.

Mastiff10488

It is important to note that the Peacekeeper stats shown are while the weapon was not equipped with the Disruptor Rounds Hop-Up. Both shotguns were otherwise fully kitted while measuring the damage output in Apex Legends’ Firing Range.

Considering the raw damage cap for both guns, Peacekeeper takes the crown while Mastiff sits behind in both fields. However, other factors can impact the performance of each weapon like moving inaccuracy, hip fire inaccuracy, pellet spread, and more.

The Peacekeeper is infamous for its nine damage shots, which could cost you an entire gunfight, resulting in a loss. It is a high-risk high-reward weapon that can potentially take down two fully equipped players with a single magazine. However, it is difficult to consistently hit a full pump of this shotgun on every enemy legend.

The Mastiff does less damage but has a tighter pellet spread and can be shot instantaneously in Aim Down Sight (ADS) mode, unlike the Peacekeeper which needs to charge up to tighten the spread for high damage output. This makes the weapon more dependable compared to the stats-winner Peacekeeper.

Moreover, the Mastiff allows you to shoot after reloading every single shell but the Peacekeeper needs to go through the entire reload animation. This can put you in a difficult position during team fights.

It is important to note that player proficiency and weapon handling are crucial in bringing out the maximum potential of any weapon in Apex Legends.
