Wattson has received a new buff that wasn’t mentioned in the Apex Legends Double Take patch notes. This buff involves her passive ability, Spark of Genius, which restores her shields over time. Respawn Entertainment is known to make changes in Apex Legends without mentioning them in the official patch notes. This time, they have chosen to make all the Wattson mains happy. This new buff has the potential to make Wattson meta again in the competitive and ranked setting.

This article discusses everything about the new Wattson buff in Apex Legends.

Wattson has received a buff to her passive ability, Spark of Genius, in Apex Legends, increasing the speed of shield regeneration. This Wattson buff and Ash’s new buff have been released in a mid-seasonal update for Apex Legends Season 21. She now regenerates two shield points every two seconds.

Before this change, Wattson regenerated two shield points every four seconds, which means her regeneration speed has doubled.

Wattson’s passive ability Spark of Genius is described in-game as:

"Ultimate Accelerant Ultimate Accelerants fully charge Wattson's ultimate and she can carry more Ultimate Accelerants. Wattson slowly restores her shields over time."

However, her ability to regenerate shields only kicks in after six seconds of not taking damage, which has remained unchanged. Let's do a side-by-side comparison of Wattson’s passive ability before and after the buff.

OLD PASSIVE

NEW PASSIVE

Regenerates 1 shield point every 2 seconds

Regenerates 2 shield points every 2 seconds

1 shield bar takes 50 seconds to regenerate

1 shield bar takes 25 seconds to regenerate

2 shield bars take 100 seconds to regenerate

2 shield bars take 50 seconds to regenerate

This implies that it now only takes 125 seconds to regenerate a red Evo shield completely. This helps Wattson’s kit massively as she can now effectively save up on her shield cells and shield batteries while holding a zone. Moreover, this passive shield regeneration stacks on top of her ultimate ability, Interception Pylon.

Interceptor Pylon also regenerates shields for everyone near it but at a much faster speed than Wattson’s passive. The combination of these two makes her heal significantly faster, making Wattson extremely powerful in holding a position and poking. Despite this being a shadow buff, this small change can once again bring Wattson to the competitive meta.
