Robert Downey Jr. has acted in diverse roles such as a comic book superhero, a classic fictional detective and many more. He may soon add the original Renaissance man to his list.
According to IGN, Robert Downey Jr. has reportedly signed on to play the role of Leonardo da Vinci in the upcoming "Assassin's Creed" movie. This piece of news was supposedly reported on Moviepilot but has now been deleted.
Gamers around the world will be delighted to watch this video-game adaptation which will star Michael Fassbender as both Michael Lynch, the death row inmate who becomes an "unwitting pawn in the Assassins/Templar war," and Aguilar de Agarorobo, an assassin during the Spanish Inquisition. The movie's plot will borrow elements from "Assassin's Creed II."

According to the plot, the evil scientist, Joseph will subject Lynch to experiments at Abstergo Industries, the modern-day front for Knights Templar. As the story progresses, Lynch gets help from a female assassin named Lara and the actress for this character will also play two roles. The movie will also feature Abstergo's CEO Alan Rikkan, but he will probably only appear as a voice over, just like in the video game. In the movie, Agarorobo's father is an assassin chief. The antagonist for the Spanish Inquisition story will be Tomas de Torquemada, who was in the "Assassin's Creed 2: Discovery" game.
Well, where does the iron man come in all of this? Well, if rumours are to be believed and Robert Downey Jr does play the part of Da Vinci, then in Assassin's Creed II, his character helps Ezio Auditore, to create weapons using the Codex pages left by Alitair, the protagonist in the first Assassin's Creed game. The character can also travel in the inventor's flying machine that was based on the actual Da Vinci's real-life plans.
Justin Kurzel will direct the "Assassin's Creed" screenplay written by Bill Collage, Adam Cooper and Michael Lesslie. The movie is slated for release on Aug. 7, 2015.
