Assassin's Creed Shadows delay might give it the breathing room it needs, as fans believe “This is 100 percent because Feb is stacked”

Publisher Ubisoft has announced that the upcoming launch of Assassin's Creed Shadows has been delayed. It will now launch on March 20, 2025, instead of the original February 14, 2025 date. This new revelation was divulged via the official social media pages of the beloved open-world stealth franchise, citing that the project needs further polish to be the best it can be.

As expected, fans are not happy, considering this is the second time the game's launch has been postponed. However, some fans, including @MrSRTTT on the social media website X, bring up an interesting point that a Feb release would mean Assassin's Creed Shadows competes against several major games in a short time frame, which is certainly something no publisher would want:

@Fuzzy_Reasoning reiterated the same while stating that the extensive gameplay footage Ubisoft has shown thus far has them sold on the game. They also theorized that this delay grants the studio an extra opportunity to further iron out the kinks in what is essentially their most ambitious Assassin's Creed game yet:

"Excellent decision. February is stacked and while the latest clips have been promising more time to cook is a good thing. Can’t wait to finally play though!"

Other fans such as @Nvy_09 used this opportunity to take a jab at Ubisoft, suggesting that the company delayed Assassin's Creed Shadows not because of polishing reasons but due to the jam-packed schedule that will no doubt affect the game's potential sales:

"Just say February is too full instead of inventing something again ^^"

Going off that train of thought, @CasasPlays expresses relief at the idea that they will not have to decide between picking up Assassin's Creed Shadows or other heavy-hitters like Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Avowed:

"Honestly thank you. More time for KCD2 and Avowed. Got a reason to look forward to March now too!"

@TH3MAFIA expresses frustration with the fact that so many publishers have chosen to launch their exciting games in one month:

"Thank god, y'all moved it. February was the worst month.Every company thinks february was like the only month that exists in 2025. At least yall finally moved to many games in february"

Fans claim Assassin's Creed Shadows delay makes sense due to February 2025 being packed with new game releases

The official PR response cites community feedback and the need for further polish as a reason for the delay, but as we saw, some fans are not convinced. Still, this gives both fans and the game much-needed breathing room to flourish, with the former being able to enjoy Assassin's Creed Shadows without missing out on other Feb game launches, and the latter not having to face stiff competition.

Ubisoft's upcoming open-world game set in feudal Japan is easily one of 2025's biggest AAA releases. Despite that, February 2025, which was supposed to be the game's upcoming launch month, is packed with big names:

  • Kingdom Come Deliverance (February 4, 2025)
  • Sid Meier's Civilization VII (February 11, 2025)
  • Avowed (February 18, 2025)
  • Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii (February 20, 2025)
  • Monster Hunter Wilds (February 28, 2025)

Gamers' wallets will no doubt be sweating next month, and these are just the AAA launches. That is without considering smaller-scale offerings like Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered and The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak II. So while players will be spoilt for choice, most fans' limited expenditure will likely force them to pick.

However, with Assassin’s Creed Shadows' new launch date, fans need not worry anymore. The game arrives on March 20, 2025, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X}S platforms.
