Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok reprises the role of Havi, the lord of Asgard, as he and Frigg travel to Svartalfheim in search of their son Baldr. There they find the peaceful Dwarven kingdom overtaken by Sutr, who has also imprisoned Baldr.

After the first mission, Havi finds himself in the company of two Dwarves, Sigrun and Halstein. The leads Havi through a cave and promises a gift. The gift in question is the Hugr-Rip.

Soon the trio find themselves in an underground Dwarven forge, where a Muspel stood guard. After Havi takes down the Muspels, the Dwarves find the Hugr-Rip and show Havi how to harness the power of his fallen enemies.

In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok, Hugr-Rip is a bracer crafted by the Dwarves, which can absorb and let the user use the power of different enemies. The power uses a resource called Hugr, which can be found in the Hugr bloom flowers across Svartalfheim. At one time, Havi can harness a maximum of two powers and can use them as long as he has Hugr.

All in all, there are a total of five powers for the Hugr-Rip, let’s take a closer look at each of them.

Power of the Raven

  • Increased duration
  • Air-assassinate while active

The power of the raven gives Havi the ability to become a raven and fly. This ability can be found with the giant ravens across Svartalfheim.

Power of Muspelheim

  • Increased duration
  • Explosive heavy attack

The Power of Muspelheim lets Havi assume the role of a Muspel. This allows him to blend in amongst the Muspels as well as walk amongst them. This ability also lets him walk on lava without getting any damage. The ability can be found with the Muspel enemies.

Power of Rebirth

  • 20% damage decrease, enemies can't interrupt attacks
  • Dead bodies within 10 metres immediately join the fight

The power of rebirth lets Havi raise fallen enemies and make them fight alongside him. It also sets his weapons on fire and deals additional damage to enemies. This ability is found amongst Muspels, albeit rarely.

Power of Jotunheim

  • Enemies become teleport targets
  • Undetected assassinations extend power when in disguise.

The power of Jotunheim disguises Havi as a Giant and lets him walk amongst Jotuns. It also lets him teleport using the world knots and his bows. This ability is found amongst Jotuns, but is very rare.

Power of Winter

  • Damage increases and enemies freeze faster
  • Frost explosion from shattered enemies

The Power of Winter lets Havi deal ice damage and freeze his enemies. This ability is found amongst Jotuns, but the possibilities of getting it are rather slim.

All in all, the Hugr-Rip plays a major role in navigating the world of Svartalfheim, and taking on its oppressors, the Muspels and the Jotuns.

youtube-cover

Dawn of Ragnarok is the third expansion of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and is arguably the most-ambitious expansion of the decade-long franchise.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the latest iteration of Ubisoft’s iconic stealth-action franchise takes the series to 9th century England, during the Viking invasion, as the players take on the role of Eivor Varindottir of the Raven Clan. Eivor, along with her brother Sigard, travels to a divided kingdom in search of a new place to call home.

Aside from the grounded story dissecting the geopolitical tension of the different kingdoms, Valhalla also interprets the Norse Mythology in its own unique way, featuring the Aesir gods of Asgard. Dawn of Ragnarok builds upon that mythological aspect and takes players to the Dwarven realm of Svartalfheim, which has been overtaken by the fire giant Surtr and his army of Muspels.
