Atomic Heart is a strange, retro-futuristic universe with a unique combination of first-person shooter and RPG features. With good reason, the game has been keenly anticipated since its introduction in 2018. I had the opportunity to play an early build of the game, and it is building up to be one of the year's most fascinating and thrilling games.
How are the enemies in Atomic Heart?
The enemies in Atomic Heart come in various shapes and sizes. The most common enemies are robotic creatures known as "Krasnye" - translating "Reds" in English. These robotic enemies come in several forms, from spider-like animals to hulking robots. The smaller Krasnye moves quickly and attacks swarms, while the larger ones are slower. In addition to Krasnye, gamers will encounter human foes such as scientists and troops. These attackers are armed with various weaponry, ranging from pistols to assault rifles, and pose a direct threat to the player. Players must employ cover and weaponry to remove these opponents, providing for more tactical combat confrontations.
As the game progresses, players will fight more formidable foes, such as "Baba Yaga" robots armed with devastating energy weapons. There are also larger, more intimidating boss foes that present the player with a substantial task. One of Atomic Heart's opponent design's benefits is that each sort of adversary needs a slightly different strategy to beat. Smaller Krasnye, for example, is better beaten using area-of-effect strikes, but bigger Krasnye may be defeated more readily by focusing on weak points. Because of the variation in opponent design, the battle seems new and entertaining throughout the game.
The opponent AI in Atomic Heart is noteworthy, with foes reacting realistically to the player's actions. If the player takes shelter behind an item, opponents will try to flank or flush them out with explosives. Enemies can also collaborate, providing for more tough and dynamic battle situations.
Is the story of Atomic Heart good?
The primary mission takes around 20 hours to complete, plus there are another 15 hours of side quests and fantastic people to engage with, fleshing out the setting and adding to the entire experience.
The game also has an engaging tale with multiple twists and turns to keep players interested. The plot is told through cutscenes and in-game chat, keeping me interested from beginning to end.
