4-star characters in Wuthering Waves are the easier playable units to obtain in the game. While most of them do not compete well enough with 5-star characters, some tend to outperform thanks to their strong kit. Some of the best 4-star characters in the game are currently part of the meta teams. However, certain 4-star characters are notably weak with noticeable flaws that hinder their ability to perform well in most teams.
This article ranks all the 4-star characters in the game in terms of synergy with meta characters, the overall strength of their kit, and how they compare with other characters in their role.

You can find the arguments for the rankings of each 4-star Wuthering Waves character down below. The best characters are in the S tier while the worst are in the D tier.
9) Taoqi
- Attribute: Havoc
- Weapon: Broadblade
Taoqi is currently the weakest 4-star character in the game. She doesn't offer much apart from her shield and heals, which aren't the greatest. She is quite lackluster compared to the support pool which consists of more powerful characters like Verina, Jianxin, and Baizhi.
Taoqi can do some work if you can unlock all of her Sequences, which can be done as she is currently available as part of Yinlin's banner. However, it's not worth investing in Taoqi at the moment and she doesn't synergize very well with any Main DPS right now.
8) Aalto
- Attribute: Aero
- Weapon: Pistols
Aalto is an interesting 4-star character who makes use of taunts and provides Aero DMG buffs with his Outro Skill. His ultimate is also unique as it buffs his damage while shooting bullets through it. However, he is not a master of anything in particular, which severely hampers his ability to compete with other Sub DPS characters.
His only synergy exists with Jiyan and even then, Mortefi does a better job of buffing Jiyan. Aalto is also quite clunky and hard to use initially unless you unlock a couple of sequences. While he is a cool character to utilize, he doesn't bring much value to many team compositions currently.
7) Yuanwu
- Attribute: Electro
- Weapon: Gauntlets
Yuanwu is an Electro character that scales off Defense and focuses on depleting the stagger bar of bosses and elite enemies. He slots in as a Sub DPS in most team compositions and his damage is nothing to write home about. The buffs he provides are also not the greatest and better Sub DPS characters are available at the moment.
That said, Yuanwu's unique kit and Defense scaling could come into play during endgame content like the Tower of Adversity once players start reaching Level 90 with their characters. For now, Yuanwu finds himself close to the bottom of the list but has the potential to climb up the ranks.
6) Chixia
- Attribute: Fusion
- Weapon: Pistols
Chixia is the first Main DPS character you receive in the open-world RPG. She is a serviceable Main DPS that dishes out a good amount of damage. However, the fact that she is a Pistol user makes parrying impossible, which is essential to quickly deplete a boss' stagger bar. This already puts her at a disadvantage compared to other Main DPS characters.
She also takes too much time to deal maximum damage and requires extensive amounts of time on-field to dish out her full damage combo. All of these factors place Chixia sixth on this tier list.
5) Yangyang
- Attribute: Aero
- Weapon: Sword
Yangyang is another character you get very quickly in the game. She is a solid support that provides strong crowd control and energy regen. However, her contributions as a Sub DPS or Support ends there, making it pretty hard to justify putting her in a team over stronger Sub DPS or Support characters.
Regardless, players who enjoy Yangyang's playstyle and her simple kit can utilize her skills quite well. She is an average character that sits in the middle of this tier list.
4) Danjin
- Attribute: Havoc
- Weapon: Sword
Danjin is a high-risk high-reward Main DPS character who sacrifices her health to do more damage. She can also heal herself, making her a self-sufficient DPS character. When played right, Danjin can do a great amount of damage. However, another Main DPS Havoc character that can be obtained outclasses her: Havoc Rover.
The existence of Havoc Rover and the ability to get free sequences on them makes Danjin's value go down. Regardless of this drawback, Danjin is still the strongest 4-star Main DPS character.
3) Baizhi
- Attribute: Glacio
- Weapon: Rectifier
Baizhi is one of the two healers currently available in the game. She is a fantastic support to have on your team if you don't have Verina. All of Baizhi's skills focus on keeping the team topped up in health. However, she is completely outclassed by Verina which makes her less appealing to many players.
Since Verina can be chosen in the Novice Banner, which makes her almost a guaranteed character you can get, having Baizhi is not necessary. Despite this, Baizhi is easily the best 4-star Support in the game.
2) Sanhua
- Attribute: Glacio
- Weapon: Sword
Sanhua is an incredibly strong Sub DPS character and one you can obtain for free if you play the game five days in a row. This makes her a very accessible character. She provides great damage bonuses through all of her skills but her Outro Skill makes her a standout amongst the rest.
Sanhua's Outro Skill buffs the Basic Attack DMG of the character on-field, which is very strong on Main DPS characters like Encore and Calcharo. Sanhua also does a decent amount of damage herself, making her a top pick in the Sub DPS slot.
1) Mortefi
- Attribute: Fusion
- Weapon: Pistols
Mortefi is currently the most reliable and strongest 4-star Sub DPS in the game. He provides incredible damage buffs to Main DPS characters and dishes out a good amount of damage as well. He has lightning-fast concerto rotations and is part of one of the dominant meta team comps at the moment.
Jiyan, Mortefi, and Verina is an incredibly popular team comp that turns Jiyan into an absolute monster, thanks to Mortefi's Heavy Attack DMG bonuses. He also synergizes well with other Main DPS characters. Mortefi's versatility and usefulness in most scenarios make him the best 4-star character in the game.
