EA FC 25 guide: Best custom tactics to use with 4222 formation

The 4222 formation is quite interesting. It uses a traditional backline consisting of a Left Back and Right Back (LB and RB), and two Center Backs (CB). However, there are no Center Midfielders (CM), but two Center Defensive Midfielders (CDM) and two Center Attacking Midfielders (CAM) instead. Two Strikers lead the attack.

Implementing a Counter Build-Up Style and High Defensive Approach with a Line Height of 60 should work well. In combination with the FC IQ Player Roles (that will be assigned in the next section) your EA FC 25 team should be well-distributed and threatening out wide.

Assign both Strikers the Advanced Forward Player Role and set their Focus to Attack. The CAMs should play in the Half Winger role with Balanced Focus. One of the two CDMs should be assigned the Deep-Lying Playmaker role and the other the Holding role, with both of their Focus set to Defend.

The LB should be given the Wingback role with Balanced Focus, so as to let that player contribute in both attack and defense. The RB can play in a Fullback role, also with Balanced Focus.

The CB pair should have their Focus set to Defend and assigned the EA FC 25 Defender Player Role. Finally, your team's Goalkeeper should play the Goalkeeper role with Balanced Focus.

When assigning FC IQ Player Roles, you will notice that some players get a + or ++ sign next to their roles. This indicates that they are an excellent choice for that particular role in the game.
