Insight about 5-2-1-2 formation in EA FC 25

Unlike most formations in EA FC 25, 5-2-1-2 has no traditional wingers. It consists of two strikers leading the frontline. In midfield, it features a CAM who can play either as a playmaker or a shadow striker to pose an additional threat in the opponent’s final third.

Meanwhile, the formation also has two CMs who can sometimes act as half-wingers to keep the formation wide. On top of it, they can create a lot of opportunities in the wing area. Lastly, there are five defenders, with three CBs to keep the backline intact while the side backs exploit the wide area to join the build-up quite often.

Several EA FC 25 players who don’t have strong wingers to go with use this option to keep their midfield area overloaded with players. On top of it, they can build up counters with short passes and transform into a banger to bag some goals for the team. One such popular EA FC player @Stingrayjnr on X, shared the formation and tactics that helped him dominate the Division Rivals in FC 25.

As suggested by @Stingrayjnr, here’s a quick look at the optimal custom tactics for the 5-2-1-2 formation that’ll yield the best results regardless of the mode in EA FC 25.

The Build-Up style must be set as a Counter and the Defensive Approach should be Balanced. However, do remember that the Line Height should be maintained to 60.

Below are the must-assigned individual player roles and focus:

  • LST: Poacher with Attack focus
  • RST: False 9 with Build-Up mentality
  • CAM: Shadow Striker with Attack focus
  • RCM: Playmaker with a Roaming focus
  • LCM: Holding with a focus on Defend mentality
  • LB: Falseback with Balanced focus
  • RB: Wingback with Balanced focus
  • CB (Left): Defender with Defend mentality
  • CB (Right): Defender with Defend mentality
  • CB (Center): Ball-Playing Defender with a focus on Defend
  • GK: Goalkeeper with a Balanced mentality

In this formation, two strikers will have different roles. One will be a Poacher and always stay upfront to look for goal-scoring opportunities, while the other will join the CAM and CMs to build up the counter.

The CAM will play as a shadow striker to increase the number of players in the opponent’s final third. While one CM will play as a Playmaker and push the ball forward to Poachers for scoring goals, the other one will stay back in the field to negate the opponent’s counters.

The LB will be a falseback who will join the CMs in the midfield area and the other side back will be a proper wingback who will stay wide in the flanks. The three CBs will remain intact in the defense while one of them will be a Ball-Playing defender to provide aerial or through balls to pose a threat in the opponent’s half. Lastly, the goalkeeper will be of a Balanced mentality and maintain his position as a non-outfield player.

That’s all the custom roles and focus you must apply to your players if you want to master the 5-2-1-2 formation in EA FC 25.
