ZZZ's strength lies in its diverse roster of playable characters, and version 1.0 brings a set of niche F2P teams in Zenless Zone Zero, considering their overall team roles. Most of these characters can be unlocked as part of the game’s campaign, making them accessible even to newcomers.

These teams are quite proficient and can clear story chapters with relative ease. However, searching for the more powerful characters will require players to spend their pulls (purchased or otherwise earned) to summon them.

Ideal beginner-friendly F2P teams in Zenless Zone Zero

The following F2P teams in Zenless Zone Zero are best suited for combat, offering a fair balance between debuffs, damage potential, and, in some cases, defense.

1) Anby, Nicole, and Billy

The Cunning Hares trio are the first characters you will be handed control of in Zenless Zone Zero. Despite being starter units, the trio is quite capable of dealing with most threats on their own, provided you invest enough resources into them.

Nicole, in particular, holds out on her own, thanks to her amazing debuffing abilities. Anby can apply Shock to enemies, stunning them momentarily. Billy is the weaker of the three but still manages to hold his own thanks to the team-wide bonus he brings to the table.

This is the only “pure” F2P team recommended as of the time of writing this article. The teams below consist of an S-Rank unit each, summoned using the Standard banner’s selector.

2) Anton, Anby, and Rina

Rina is a great S-Rank support unit and can easily bring a team to its full potential when paired. Of the free characters available past the game’s prologue, both Anby and Anton are great picks for a mono Electric-based team.

Anby provides Stun, which is enhanced by Rina. Anton acts as the team’s DPS and can pulverize through hordes of enemies with relative ease when built correctly.

3) Nekomata, Corin, Piper

Nekomata is the S-Rank of choice in this particular lineup and a part of the permanent starter banner. This mono Physical DMG team consists of two attackers and a singular Anomaly debuffer—Piper. The team can take on challenges just fine, especially with a maxed-out Nekomata.

While these characters are admittedly underpowered compared to their S-Rank counterparts, they can clear the worst of what Zenless Zone Zero 1.0 has to offer, but a fair bit of effort and a lot of patience. Amassing and fusing dupes of these characters (via the CINEMA mode) is highly recommended to strengthen them.
