Best Horror Games in Days of Play 2024
1) Alan Wake 2
Alan Wake 2 is one of the most popular Horror titles in Days of Play. Taking place 13 years after the events of the first game. Alan Wake, the protagonist of the franchise, is still trapped in the Dark Place, a nightmare world where his nightmares and fears manifest as reality. For over a decade, he has been trying to write various letters and hints that he uses to communicate with the people outside to get a chance to get out.
The game features a mix of survival horror and detective elements, with a focus on storytelling and psychological mystery. Players can explore three distinct locations in the Pacific Northwest region: Bright Falls, Watery, and Cauldron Lake. It is a great horror game if you like classic noir movies and psychological dramas.
2) Alone in the Dark
This survival horror is a blast from the past that meticulously captures the feels of vintage horror and LA Noir movies. This game is a re-imagination of the 90s cult classic game with the same name and features a mix of exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat against supernatural threats.
The story is set in the 1920s and follows the story of private investigator Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood as they investigate the disappearance of Emily's uncle at the Derceto Manor in Louisiana. The game lets you choose between Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood, each with their own unique abilities and perspectives.
3) Amnesia: The Bunker
Amnesia used to be a franchise that you can’t miss even if you try. This gaming series is the main reason that various popular YouTubers such as PewDiePie, Jacksepticeye, and Markiplier got to build their initial audience and launch their career in the atmosphere. In 2023, Amnesia made a comeback with Amnesia: The Bunker.
Amnesia: The Bunker is set in World War I and follows French soldier Henri Clément, who is trapped in an underground bunker with a mysterious monster called "The Beast." It features a semi-open world map. The horror elements are triggered by sounds from the noisy torchlight that you are given at the start of the game.
4) Dying Light 2 Stay Human
Dying Light 2 Stay Human takes place 22 years after the first Dying Light and features a new protagonist named Aiden Caldwell. It has all the charms (and dread) of the first game. Once again you get to fight against massive hordes of zombies with your guns and guts. You can now also perform parkour tricks to make some distance between you and the brain eaters.
The story is very straightforward. The planet is run over by zombies and humanity is on the brink of extinction. You fight for survival while dealing with infidelity and betrayal. This is hands down one of the best survival horrors in Days of Play sale.
5) Little Nightmares II
Personally, seeing Little Nightmares II making their way into the Days of Play, makes me very happy. This indie horror deserves all the praise it has gotten. Little Nightmares, as suggested by its name, shows how terrifying the world will become if you are a child stuck in a nightmare realm where everyone and everything wants to kill or eat you.
The game follows Mono and Six, as they work together to survive the horrors of the Pale City and uncover its dark secret. This game is a prequel to the first game, and it sets the tone for the world and the characters, especially Six, shedding more light on her backstory. If you are craving a great indie horror with intuitive puzzles and more, give Little Nightmares II a shot.
