A good horror survival game will put your gaming skills to the test. There has been a lack of rip-roaring video games on the market, which has reduced the enthusiasm of gamers in the past year. Sometimes, you need to dive into the archives and dig out long-lost gems that will not only help you get a taste of vintage video games but also give you a break from modern titles.
When it comes to enjoyable horror survival games, there have not been very many releases in the past few years. Resident 4 Remake was decent but it cannot compensate for the deficit in the overall supply of survival horror games.
The same is not true for the horror survival games that used to be released in the past decade. In that period, such games were rarely disappointing as most titles were genuinely scary enough to have you on the edge of your seat. Nonetheless, if you're looking for something scintillating from the past, check out the following list and give these games a shot.

Best horror survival games that have been forgotten over the years
1) I’m Alive
This is one of those horror survival games that was not done justice to, given how it was released and announced to the world with little to no effort put into its marketing. The people who developed this game had put in a lot of effort but they did not get the recognition they deserved. Undoubtedly, I’m Alive is one of the best games in the survival horror genre.
This game is set in a post-apocalyptic era where almost all of the major human settlements have been destroyed by a catastrophic earthquake. You play as a man named Adam Collins who is among the few survivors and it is your objective to reunite with your wife and daughter who were separated from you during the earthquake. You have to find your way through the tough times having been put in a situation that screams of desperation and despair.
The game had a unique confidence meter that either let you or prevented you from performing certain tasks or stunts. Another interesting aspect of this game was you could easily trick your enemies by just pointing your empty gun at them and making them surrender if they didn't have a firearm. This could potentially be true in real life and is a good idea to adapt to the game.
2) Get Even
If you can familiarise yourself with this horror survival game, it means you have always been a thorough fan of thrills. Released by Namco in 2017, this horror survival game is a perfect blend of first-person shooter and psychological horror. You would lose yourself in the game, given how immersive the whole experience is.
You play as a mercenary who wakes up in a desolate asylum and has no recollection of how he landed there. You explore the decrepit halls of the asylum to gather clues and resources that can help you understand your disposition.
The visuals of this game are decent. Although not close to top-shelf, the graphics keep you on edge with its eerie mood. You will also find that the combat in this game is not challenging and it could make the game feel boring at times. It still is an amazing horror survival game that you will enjoy playing.
3) Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare
By now, it is known that whatever title comes from the Red Dead franchise, it is bound to deliver and this expansion pack was no exception. You are tasked with saving your family from a deadly disease that is infecting anyone it crosses, turning them into undead zombies. You have to shoot these zombies and clear hordes of them at times to stay alive so that you can find a cure for the deadly plague.
This expansion pack for Red Dead Redemption unlocks an array of new content in the form of characters, weapons, locations, and gameplay mechanics, making this game feel like a completely different title. The uniqueness of this game is that you can mount zombie horses and ride on their backs, which is not often seen in other zombie survival video games.
This horror survival game also gives you a multiplayer mode that you can enjoy with your friends and use as an efficient way to kill some time.

4) Zombi
The name might give off an indie title vibe made by a small team of college graduates. However, it is everything you could ask for from a horror survival game. This title is a beautiful blend of exploration and survival. The combat is also highly satisfying and requires you to stay sharp.
A unique feature about the combat in this game is that if you die while fighting the zombies, you don’t start over. Instead, you spawn as a new survivor and your old corpse becomes a zombie that you must hunt down to retrieve your old items. It’s a pretty nifty feature, to be honest.
5) Lost Planet Series
If you are amongst those who had the fortune of owning a console in the mid-2010s, you have surely heard of this title, if not played it. It is one of those few horror survival games that can make you reminisce about Mass Effect and Dead Space because it is around this time that all of these classics rose to popularity.
This horror survival game makes you play against a rival human faction that lives amongst dangerous alien creatures. The single-player is fun by itself but the 2014 sequel introduced a Co-op mode that made this title more popular.
