Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is back, as a part of the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, so it’s time to look at which squads are the very best. While the full roster of characters is worth playing, there is a very defined list of “best characters.” It’s been that way for years, and it’s likely to remain that way unless some undiscovered tech appears for someone else on the roster.
However, that doesn’t mean these are the only Marvel vs. Capcom 2 characters you should run, far from it. At the end of the day, you should play what feels good for you, and what’s fun for you. The teams mentioned in this article are simply among the absolute top-tier power picks. They will still require practice and work, but if you’re getting into the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, here are some squads to consider.

What are the most powerful squads in Marvel vs. Capcom 2? (Marvel vs.Capcom Fighting Collection)
When I play, I tend to pick sort of silly teams - sometimes low-tier, sometimes not. For example, I feel like there’s a lot of fun to be had with Cyclops, Sentinel, and Thanos, or Akuma, Cyclops, and Zangief.
If you want to try some of the top tournament teams in Marvel vs. Capcom 2, here are the ones you should consider:
- Magneto, Storm, Sentinel (Assists: A, A, A)
- Magneto, Storm, Psylocke (Assists: A, A, A)
- Sentinel, Storm, Captain Commando (Assists: Y, A, B)
- Magneto, Iron Man, Sentinel (Assists: A, B, Y)
- Storm, Sentinel, Cable (Assists: A, Y, B)
- Sentinel, Strider, Dr. Doom (Assists: Y, A, B)
Some of these are pretty obvious: Magneto, Storm, and Sentinel allow you to take advantage of Storm/Sentinel DHC (Delayed Hyper Combo), to obliterate a single character without too much effort. In other situations, particular players made teams famous.
Sentinel, Storm, and Captain Commando, AKA Team Santhrax, was made famous by New York legend Sanford Kelly. It relies on Lightning Attack, canceling into Lightning Storm, and then DHCing the Hyper Sentinel Force. You could combine this with Captain Commando’s great assist to flatten players.
Sentinel, Strider, and Dr. Doom is an incredibly fun team, often pioneered by Clockw0rk, a California MVC2 player. It’s an aggressive, fun team, but it’s a little on the risky side. It’s hard to come back if you lose a member of this squad.
There are plenty of tier lists for Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and each player has their idea of who is at the top of the pecking order. No matter how you slice it though, Magneto, Storm, Sentinel, and Cable are almost always S-Tier.
The above list is just a small sampling of some of the best top-tier teams you can pick in the game, but it’s not all-encompassing. It all comes down to how you want to approach the game. Even “low-tier characters” can shine in the right composition. What matters is that you pick up the sticks and play, now that this classic fighting game is back.
