Which class is the best to start with in Lords of the Fallen?

Lords of the Fallen is the latest Soulslike on the block, and there are some excellent choices for starting classes in this game. Ultimately, how you play the game is up to you, and Soulslike veterans will probably already have their class picked out before even picking up the game. However, some fans might see one glaring missing character: The Dark Crusader.

You can unlock this iconic class, but you can start as it only if you purchased the game's special edition. For that reason, I left it off this list. It is like the Hallowed Knight, though, so it can be considered equal for that position.

These classes are in no particular order and are all worth playing. Remember that you should play the class that feels right for you in Lords of the Fallen. However, we hope this guide will help you towards your destiny in this new Soulslike title.

Which classes are worth it for beginners in Lords of the Fallen?

1) Blackfeather Ranger

The Blackfeather Ranger is a starting class for Lords of the Fallen players who love to counterattack and parry. That’s where their focus lies as one of the agility-based classes, making it different from the Mournstead Infantry. It’s a class that requires a great deal of skill but will reward the player with damage and success.

However, it also uses ranged weapons alongside a one-handed weapon, making it fairly versatile. While ranged isn’t amazing in all fights, it can be an invaluable tool for Lords of the Fallen’s boss fights.

2) Hallowed Knight

What makes the Hallowed Knight great in Lords of the Fallen as one of the starting classes is that it's a great all-rounder. It has a great stat spread and starts with a great weapon (Hallowed Knight Sword), grenades, and a few healing items (Briostone Pairs). Since it has such a nice stat spread, you can do a lot with it. You can make yourself into a healing, a buff machine, or deal magical damage, thanks to its reasonable Radiance and Inferno Stats.

If you want to start as a Dark Crusader but didn’t pick up the special edition, Hallowed Knight is one of the classes I’d recommend the most. It’s easily one of the best in the game, period.

3) Orian Preacher

The Orian Preacher is for the players that prefer a Faith build - in this case, Radiance. When I play Soulslike games, this is one of the class types I gravitate towards. They can cast useful Radiance spells to protect and heal themselves. They also have solid magical attacks through spells like Radiant Flare.

However, it’s a class you will really need to be on the ball with because they wear light armor. This Lords of the Fallen beginner class can’t really take a beating, so make sure you’ve mastered the art of parrying and evasion.

4) Partisan

The Partisan is another of the best starting classes in Lords of the Fallen. It has incredible Vitality and solid armor to get them started, making them quite safe. I love the Flail, but it’s also interesting to see such a well-protected character come with a Crossbow. I would argue it has better stats than the Hallowed Knight, if only by a little.

It’s versatile, with a strong melee weapon and ranged option, so you can play however you’d like. Many players have found this to be their favorite class in Lords of the Fallen, and it’s not really hard to see why.

5) Pyric Cultist

The Pyric Cultist doesn't have a lot of defensive options, but it can deal amazing damage (Image via CI Games)

While the Pyric Cultist doesn’t start with the Inferno Catalyst, they do come equipped with a Pyric Cultist Staff and a Pyric Umbral Catalyst. That means they have access to the game’s other magical damage type, which uses the Inferno stat. The Inferno Catalyst will be key to their growth later and using more devastating magic.

It’s not as durable as the Orian Preacher, but that’s the case with most spellcasters in games like this. It’s definitely for the player who wants to find clever ways to destroy enemies from afar without mixing it up in melee too often.

All the starting classes in Lords of the Fallen are good at one thing or another. If you haven't picked up the game yet and want to know about its various editions, this guide will help.
