Black Myth Wukong's official Benchmarking Tool recently received a major title update, which comes with fixes for the crashes that players have been reporting since its release, as well as a "Compatibility Mode." The Benchmark Tool is currently only available for PC users via Steam and gives a rough idea of how the actual game would perform on the platform.

The Benchmark Tool is just a small slice of the entire game, coming in at roughly 6 gigabytes in install size. However, given the game is due for release in less than a week, it's more or less an accurate representation of the kind of performance players can expect from the final game.

That said, despite its small file size and limited functionality, the Benchmarking Tool was released with a handful of issues, which resulted in unexpected crashes. The latest update is targeted at fixing primarily the crashing issues with the Tool. Here's a look at the official patch notes for Black Myth Wukong Benchmarking Tool's official patch notes.

Black Myth Wukong Benchmarking Tool official patch notes (August 14, 2024)

Black Myth Wukong Benchmarking Tool's latest update adds a Compatibility Mode. It allows players who were facing crashing issues to launch the software properly, albeit with a preset. Game Science does mention in the patch notes that the Compatibility Mode enables V-sync by default, which can have an impact on framerate, especially on lower-end systems.

That said, here's a look at the official patch notes for the Benchmarking Tool:

  • Added a "Compatibility Mode" launch option.
  • Those Destined Ones who are unable to properly start the benchmark tool, please try selecting the Compatibility Mode in the launch options to start this tool. Please note that compatibility mode will enable vertical sync, which may cause a drop in frame rate. Players who can start normally should not select this option.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when entering the settings interface. This issue could cause the tool window to display abnormally and be unrecoverable.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when displaying the benchmark results.

The Benchmarking Tool is an excellent way to give players an early look at the game, while also helping them decide on whether they should pre-order Black Myth Wukong, based on how it performs on their PC. While most AAA games have stopped releasing demos and benchmarking tools for PC users, it's good to see Game Science uphold that tradition.

Black Myth Wukong is scheduled to be released on August 20, 2024, on PC (Steam, and Epic Games Store) and PlayStation 5. The Xbox Series X|S version has been delayed and is yet to get a confirmed release date.
