"Bloodhound has been overnerfed": Apex Legends players discuss impact of Season 22 Recon legend buff

Apex Legends Season 22 is right around the corner and is set to bring a new feature called Battle Sense. The upcoming patch is being tailored to create a balanced playing field for the entire community with visible health bars and character highlights to make enemy tracking easier. However, this caused a few questions as Reddit user u/VegardStrom articulated in a recent post and said:

“Bloodhound has been overnerfed and next season nerfs them even more. Next season, all recon legends get the red highlight on enemies. So now the Blood Ult cant see in Bang smoke, cant extend on knocks, the red highlight is there for all recons, even on bloodhound not in Ult, so the Ult is basically an Octane stim?? On 4 minute cooldown. I think they should buff the Ult, this seems stupid and overnerfed. Any thoughts?”

The original post poses a logical concern that might drive Bloodhound out of the effective meta and lower their pick rate throughout the game. Since all characters would be able to have a nerfed version of the Digital Threat vision by simply ADS-ing (Aiming Down Sights), Bloodhound’s ultimate ability will fail to scale up as effectively.

Reddit user u/McManus26 defended the Recon legend by stating that Blood’s ultimate ability is slightly better as it does not require ADS, boosts the player's movement speed, and you get a better enemy highlight. However, it does not provide that significant of an advantage compared to the changes coming in the next seasonal update.

The comments followed a similar trend and u/DarthChungus1015 provided insight that the legend could potentially head for a rework, similar to Revenant. The abilities are not unique as they will be replicated as part of the Battle Sense update.

Reddit user u/lettuce_field_theory sided with the upcoming update and stated that Bloodhound is one of the easiest legends to use in Apex Legends. Such a character should not be overpowered anyway since it can be mastered with ease, compared to others in the roster. The comment also highlighted the legend's pick rate was high because it was simply oppressive and ruled the meta for several seasons.

u/ijmy3 cited that this was an expected change as a part of the game’s lifecycle where the developers would nerf every character when it starts dominating the meta. The user pointed out the emergence of Evac Towers and the downfall of Valkyrie’s pick rate, before which the legend was essential for traversing long distances on the map.

However, characters like Pathfinder and Horizon are likely to maintain their power balance in a battle royale, like Apex Legends, which is largely built around movement mechanics.

Does the new recon class buff make Bloodhound useless in Apex Legends?

Bloodhound holds its place in Apex’s roster as one of the original Recon legends. Their ultimate ability to target enemies better while maximizing movement speed is a great beginner ability to win gunfights. The signature ability scans through walls and provides a complete outline of the enemies, which is unique and can come in clutch despite the upcoming Apex Legends Season 22 update.

While the legend's pick rates will likely be affected after the next patch, there is no certain parameter that indicates Bloodhound’s decline in the future as the Apex Legends community is creative and could potentially combine Battle Sense with the existing abilities for a more aggressive team composition.
