Borderlands 4 just got its first-ever full-length trailer during its brief panel at The Game Awards 2024. The legendary looter-shooter franchise is returning for the first time in over five years since Borderlands 3, with players hoping for a similar ramp-up in terms of gameplay. There were indeed glimpses of gameplay in the trailer and a first look at the four brand-new Vault Hunter characters we'll likely get to play.
While the expected release date remains rather vague, this does set some expectations as to what we'll get in Borderlands 4.

Keeping with the tradition of Borderlands games, this one will introduce four completely new Vault Hunters. Not much was revealed other than their character design, other than how one of the four potentially has melee-focused abilities similar to Zer0 from Borderlands 2.
The trailer also doesn't give us much of a clue on where Bordlands 4 will be set. The video shows a rocky canyon, a hub spot built into a cave system, a metropolitan cityscape, and a few interior locations. However, with how scavs and bandits are plentiful, we would not be surprised if Pandora is back on the menu.
All in all, the trailer does not showcase anything new in terms of gameplay: just some basic glimpses of gunplay and vehicle-riding. It does give a hint as to where the plot momentum may drive us, with a full-on skirmish between bandits and what seems to be a new faction. "Break Free", the trailer says before announcing that the game is coming in 2025.
After what was admittedly not the best year for the franchise, what with the Hollywood adaptation being a complete dud, the Borderlands 4 trailer surely sets up something for long-time fans to look forward to.
