The Marvel Rivals community recently took to the r/marvelrivals subreddit to discuss the progression issues with the game. Most believe that the time-gated nature of the Battle Pass progression system is ruining the overall experience. They feel like the game has no incentives and is pretty much pointless to play apart from a mere 10-15 minute daily session.
A Redditor by the name of u/doomygloom56 aptly claimed that the Battle Pass felt like a Trojan horse virus—meaning it was there as an important part of the game but there is nothing one can do to progress. They said:
“Yeah this BP feels like a Trojan horse.”

Redditor u/Simple Simons also stated how they thought that it was a bug when they saw their progression bar not going up even after playing for hours. They commented:
“I thought it was a bug. Had no idea it worked like this and felt so weird after playing for hours to see no visual sense of progression anywhere.”
Some users even compared the system with older games like MultiVersus and Halo Infinite. They pointed out that these games used a similar progression system but the developers had to quickly change it as they simply did not work.
Redditor u/jshcamisado had the same argument, where they pointed out the similarities between Marvel Rivals, MultiVersus, and Halo Infinite. They further stated that since this was just the beginning, the developers had plenty of time to change things for the better.
The entire community was pretty much unhappy with how little incentive the game provided to keep players grinding. Some Redditors, including u/austinkun, pointed out that it is only viable to play the game for like 15 minutes daily after which it just makes no sense. They further went on to add that this was especially bad since the game had just launched which is the peak time to grind to the top. They said:
“Yeah im pretty shocked how your progress just comes to a complete stop so quickly...why even have exp and account level if it does nothing for the pass or any reward at all, so nonsensical.”
Finally, user Mithek91 commented that although there being no incentives was his biggest complaint, the community should understand that Season 0 is just the beginning. The developers are just testing the waters with the initial launch and should be able to perfect their flaws by the time Season 1 launches. They further added that even the smallest of incentives might make the progression system way better.
This covers the biggest issue with Marvel Rivals, according to the community, since its launch on December 6, 2024. Considering similar situations have been fixed in the past with different games, the community can hope for some changes in the near future that will reward them for the countless hours spent in the game.
How to fix the progression system in Marvel Rivals?
The progression system in the game is currently time-gated meaning you can only get a limited amount of progression daily, post which you will not be rewarded even if you play for countless hours.
So, to keep things interesting and not overdo it at the same time, the developers should understand that 'less progression is better than no progression.' Therefore, instead of halting progression completely, they should award coins and XP in limited amounts once the daily challenges and quests have been completed.
