"Bro started lying to himself" — CS2 community reacts to NaVi pro jL's fake PGL trophy

NaVi's CS2 pro jL pulled a rather hilarious prank on his fans after posting an interesting image of a PGL Copenhagen 2024 Trophy. The image he posted on his X handle showed an in-game cosmetic trophy in his collection. However, it wasn't real as jL was merely pranking fans with a fake image. The players have reportedly not received their in-game trophy after winning the prestigious event, which could have informed the joke.

Regardless, fans were both entertained and perplexed. One X user, @mitewwCS even stated that the pro had now resorted to lying to himself:

User @BrianCS_ was seemingly convinced that the game had returned to its old trophy distribution system. Notably, this hasn't been the case since the conception of CS2.

Meanwhile, @Kyno_ realized that the NaVi team members still did not have their in-game trophy and urged Valve to finally deliver it to their accounts.

While some CS2 fans were quick to catch jL's prank, others were not as quick. @mom0Rain seemingly bought the idea of jL finally receiving his trophy in-game.

There was yet another person in the comments who believed that the trophy had finally come through. However, the congratulations from @spillerstephan came with a pinch of salt.

Finally, @BigDLance asked jL to relax and allow Valve some more time before the trophy was finally delivered to his in-game collection.

How important are CS2 trophies to winners of major tournaments?

While every winning team earns themselves a real trophy upon winning, up until the release of Counter-Strike 2, the tradition has been that everyone gets an in-game trophy with the team's name written on it.

The trophy in question was very popular in CS:GO and had the names of all the winning teams written on it. One more team winning it would have meant its name was added to the list before the in-game trophy would become available in each of the players' collections.

These trophies can then be displayed next to the players' names in their profiles. NaVi didn't get the PGL Copenhagen 2024 trophy in spite of winning. This has naturally left jL frustrated, and he has voiced his annoyance with the delay multiple times on his social media handles.
