The combat system in Black Myth Wukong might look straightforward initially, but it has plenty of depth, especially after you start unlocking Skills for the Staff and its different Stances. However, while the game emphasizes the importance of dodging attacks and Perfect Dodges, there's little to no mention of how you can block enemy attacks should you fail to dodge them.
Given how similar Black Myth Wukong's combat system is to titles like Nioh and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, it's only natural for players to be curious about blocking attacks in the game. Unfortunately, Black Myth Wukong doesn't feature a traditional blocking system. Your only way of avoiding attacks is to dodge them in time.
However, there's still a way to block some incoming attacks in Black Myth Wukong, albeit with the use of Spells.

How does blocking work in Black Myth Wukong?
There's no way to block incoming attacks in Black Myth Wukong, not without the use of Spells at least. However, given that Spells are tied to Mana, they aren't infinitely reusable to block attacks. You will have to resort to using dodges and Perfect Dodges to avoid getting hit by enemies.
Additionally, Spells can only block regular and a few elemental (Four Banes) attacks. However, they aren't that effective at blocking most AOE (area-of-effect) attacks, which is something most end-game bosses make use of. That said, if you do want to have something in your roster to block enemy attacks, you'll need the Rock Solid and Ring of Fire Spells.
The Rock Solid Spell is obtained in Chapter 2 after defeating the Tiger Vanguard boss, near the Crouching Tiger Temple. Meanwhile, the Ring of Fire Spell is obtained in Chapter 3 after the second encounter with the Macaque Chief. Both these Spells are automatically obtained during the main storyline and aren't missable.
Do note that Rock Solid replaces Cloud Step, and Ring of Fire replaces Immobilize Spells from your quick access wheel. Rock Solid temporarily hardens the Destined One's skin, making him invulnerable against regular and elemental attacks. Meanwhile, the Ring of Fire creates a flame ring that negates any attack for a short duration.
Both these Spells have their own Skill Tree and can be upgraded to further enhance their effectiveness. However, since the use of these Spells is tied to your MP (Mana), they cannot be spammed endlessly and can only be used between cooldowns.
