The game is confirmed for launch on PC and PS5. This comes as a consequence of it utilizing the Unreal Engine 5 engine, ensuring maximum immersion and realism in depicting the eerie town of Silent Hill. This is evident with the densely detailed and foggy environments of the town as well as pristinely modeled characters.

The current-gen platforms and modern PCs have enough graphical grunt to support the team's vision. On the flip side, the PS4 and Xbox One employ hardware that is over a decade old. And while the Nintendo Switch is more modern compared to the last-gen home consoles, it still sports a dated mobile chipset.

On paper, this makes a port of the remake unfeasible. Even if it is possible, developers are understandably choosing to drop last-gen support in favor of more streamlined development by focusing on the current-gen without sacrificing fidelity and scope. Additionally, with the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon, ports to the current hardware do not make sense either.

It is a remake of the beloved 2001 survival horror game by Konami. Protagonist James Sunderland is brought to the surreal town of Silent Hill thanks to a letter from his deceased wife who allegedly awaits his return there. While trying to track down her whereabouts, he finds out more than what he bargained for as the town is teeming with secrets and disfigured monsters on the loose.

James must fight his way through the terrifying monsters, solve puzzles, and progress through horrifying set-pieces. The game's pedigree as a must-play for horror lovers has rendered fans anxious as to how the remake will turn out.

However, developer Bloober Team's rich history with the genre, thanks to acclaimed games like Layers of Fear, Observer, and The Medium is a sign that the project is in the right hands.
