Choose your Destiny: Titan, Warlock or Hunter

Destiny classes

A trio of choices, all with their unique abilities.

Unlike other massively multiplayer online role-playing games, Destiny has chosen to do something else with it’s class system. Most Multiplayer Online RPGs are often made in a manner where parties need to have a balanced assortment of classes to succeed such as healers, tanks, damage dealers; you know the usual. However, according to reports, Destiny is not looking to make the differences between classes important. Still, it doesn’t mean that everyone is the same. There are significant differences between the game's three classes, and you will probably end up liking one more than the others. Here's a quick run through of the between Destiny's 3 classes:

Titan

Destiny has described titans as armoured engines of war who can "control any battle with strength and strategy." Striker is the titan's first subclass and its super ability is fist of havoc, a ground smash that damages and dissolves nearby enemies. It can be upgraded to leave a damage-dealing field in its wake, to allow you to leap and then smash enemies below you, and finally, unleash a shockwave of energy. Added to that, when you're playing as a striker, your melee attack deals bonus damage.

You unlock the titan's other subclass, the defender, when you reach level 15. This subclass is able to take as much punishment as possible. Its super ability is called ward of dawn, which lets you temporarily create a shield that can protect you and your teammates. It can be upgraded so that passing through the shield gives you a momentary shield of your own, or an increase to weapon damage. The defender's melee attack creates a damage-absorbing barrier around you. It can be upgraded so that, while the barrier lasts, you can reload and ready your weapons a lot more quickly.

Hunter

Hunters are the assassins of the game, specialized in deviousness and accurate, highly damaging attacks. The first subclass available to the hunter is called gunslinger and its super ability is the golden gun, which although for a short time, significantly increases your weapon's damage. This ability can be upgraded to make enemies explode. And rather than a patterned melee attack, gunslingers use throwing knives, which can be upgraded to make enemies catch fire when struck.

At level 15, bladedancer, hunter’s 2nd subclass is unlocked. The bladedancer's unique super ability is called arc blade, a deadly lightning attack. It can be upgraded with an area-of-effect damage radius, or to unleash a wave of energy, or to make you invisible. Blink strike is the melee attack of the bladedancer and it has greater range than other melee attacks. It can be upgraded to boost a significant increase to damage when striking from behind, or to make you vanish from sight for a short time.

Warlock

Rounding up Destiny's trio of classes is the warlock. As the name goes, this is the closest thing to a mage that you may see in other games. The warlock's opening subclass is the voidwalker, whose super ability is called nova bomb. It is an explosive bolt of energy that damages all enemies within its area of effect. The voidwalker's melee attack, energy drain, reduces the cool-down of your grenades, and can be upgraded so that killing enemies with energy drain restores some of your health or raises your movement speed for a brief time.

Destiny classes

The warlock's following subclass, the sunsinger again available at level 15, has a super ability called radiance. This provides a temporary boost to all of your abilities. The melee attack of sunsingers is called scorch which as the name goes, ignites enemies, causing fire damage over time.

Races

In addition to choosing a class, you must also select from one of Destiny's three races. Unlike the choice of race in many MMOs, there are no stat bonuses or penalties associated with the game's races. This is just a cosmetic choice designed to give players an additional way to express themselves and to make the world of Destiny feel more diverse. You can play as a human, as a mechanical exo or as one of the ethereal awoken. However, no matter which race and class you are, there is something all characters will be able to do in the game. And we mean, Dancing! Celebrate your victories with a dance at the end.
