Ever since its release, Marvel Rivals has been constantly growing and climbing up the charts. Within a week, the game has gained over 10 million unique players and become one of the most talked about games this year. Being free, the game depends completely on in-game transactions and offers a range of cosmetic items to players.

One of the item categories in the game is Collectibles, which players initially assumed would be similar to Heirloom Shards from Apex Legends, a resource that would help craft unique and rare skins. However, players soon realized that despite costing 200 Chrono Tokens, these Collectibles serve no purpose at all. Neither are these cosmetic items imbued with any special abilities nor do they help in any sort of crafting or trading of items.

User u/Arcadialol posted a question on the official Marvel Rivals Subreddit regarding the issue, prompting tens of people to leave comments expressing their views.

The caption of the post reads:

"So, uh, what does "collectibles" actually do, and what's the point of this item that I can't turn or do anything with? Why is there an item on the purchasable battle pass that you can't do anything with? lol"

User u/arjeidi observed how these items are useless and found it funny that you need to unlock Collectibles using the Chrono Tokens if you want to unlock the hero skins in Battle Pass. You can only earn a sufficient amount of these tokens by playing the game for hours.

User u/Doogienguyen agreed and further pointed out that even free items like Emotes can't be used unless you have a compatible skin from the paid Battle Pass.

User u/Makyuta also left an interesting comment, referring to Marvel Rivals Collectibles as worthless NFTs.

User u/-501st-lgni called the Collectibles a "nothing burger" that is just made for people to spend more Chrono Tokens, forcing them to play more hours to unlock relevant cosmetics.

On the other hand, user u/PR0MAN1 believed that these Collectibles could become usable in the item shop in the future, allowing players to trade them for actual cosmetics.

There are multiple types of in-game currencies in Marvel Rivals, which can be confusing for beginners. Here are all the types and their purpose:

  • Lattice: The primary type of currency that can be used to purchase anything in the game. Battle Pass can only be purchased using Lattices.
  • Chrono Tokens: The Chrono Tokens help you buy items from the Battle Pass. It can be earned by completing daily missions and seasonal events.
  • Units: The Units help you purchase skins from the main shop. Some quests from the seasonal events grant you free Units.

While Chrono Tokens and Units can be unlocked for free using Lattices, Lattices themselves, can only be purchased with real money. Meanwhile, Achievement Points in the Career tab are earned by completing one-time quests and help you unlock small amounts of Units, Chrono Tokens, and certain cosmetic items.
