The CS2 community was left baffled after a Reddit post hinted at the possible arrival of Keychains in the game. Famous leaker Gabe Follower had previously taken to X to share game code that mentioned Keychains. This post was then reshared on Reddit, where the community discussed whether it was a valuable update to the game or not.
Many fans were upset with the addition of Keychains to he game. Not because it was inherently bad, but because many believed that making important quality-of-life changes in CS2 should take priority over new cosmetics. Any_Championship_109 even went on to call it an abusive relationship with Valve, saying:
"yup I quit this sh*t game already, like an abusive relationship valve gives 0 f**ks, spits in our face."

The Keychain update has not been officially announced. However, its presence in the code shows that it could well be on its way. Redditor No-Parfait1269 believed that Valve was carefully crafting a terrible update. They said:
"Valve carefully crafting the worst possible updates for cs2"
One user particularly pointed out how Keychains are just not relevant to the game. kronos7911 noted that Valve should invest its resources in bettering the anti-cheat instead of new features.
While many fans seemed upset about the potential introduction of Keychains, mightymob0303 believed that the community would certainly purchase a lot of these cosmetics if and when they get introduced to the game in spite of the backlash. They said:
"Watch the community gobble that sh*t up and make valve billions"
Finally, one CS2 player, Emerpus1, opined that Valve was probably still working on their anti-cheat. New cosmetics being in the works does not mean that devs had abandoned VAC Live altogether. They pointed out that the cosmetics and anti-cheat departments were certainly separate areas of work at Valve.
Does Valve need Keychains in CS2?
Almost every game has cosmetics. CS2 is no different. However, up until now the skins and cosmetics were limited to weapons and operators. Keychains coming to the game is so shocking to the fans because many want Valve to improve the title's anti-cheat mechanism. Counter-Strike 2 is loaded with hackers with even iconic personalities like Neymar Jr. complaining about cheaters.
It is clear that the player base is suffering. As you may have seen, many have already claimed that they quit the game a while ago. The current state of affairs is not good and it's only reasonable if some players are upset over a new addition to the game. But as one of the Redditors pointed out, Valve is likely working on new content and on VAC simultaneously.
Hopefully, it's all just a matter of time.
