Spectre Divide was officially released this month, on September 3, 2024. However, despite all the hype surrounding it, the game has quickly seen a downfall in the number of players. According to Steam Charts, the game peaked in terms of player count two weeks ago with over 30,000 online. Now, it has anywhere between 6,000 to 10,000 players with the 24-hour peak being 9,091, leaving fans surprised.
A Reddit post by xFawtface2x went viral on the platform after the player praised the game's potential before admitting that the player count was quickly dwindling. That said, a larger part of the community also seemed to show faith in the game's future.
User MinesweeperGang believed it was natural for Spectre Divide to have its highs and lows since the game was only released by Mountaintop Studios this month. The user said:

"Blows me away that we even need to say this. It’s literally a brand-new game that hasn’t had that much advertising. Sitting at around 9k players right now. From when I’ve checked it’s usually between 7-9k which is fine."
User derkerburgl admitted they were genuinely surprised by Spectre Divide's falling player count. For them, the game is the perfect middle ground between titles like Call of Duty and Valorant, and they introduced it to their friends who play either of the latter two shooters.
User Kyle_Ress advised everyone to keep playing the game that they love and also jump onto Discord to connect with others to help the community grow. They wrote:
"I have been really enjoying the game, the synergy of abilities and specters is super fun when there is comms. I recommend jumping into Discord to find groups to play with (is) much more fun like that. I'm plat if anyone wants to jump in and play feel free to send me a DM."
Finally, u/soccerpuma03 felt that negative comments on social media come from sheer opinion and not because the game is bad. They also shared their opinion regarding the devs at MountainTop Studios:
Spectre Divide and its dwindling player count
Spectre Divide was released this month and is already facing a falling player count. Those who have played it have reported issues with the game's performance on lower-end PCs, a ranking system that at times feels unrewarding, and slow progression.
However, since the game is new, in-game issues can be expected. That said, the player count could increase in the coming months with newer Spectre Divide patches.
