V's unique style looks like it could help freshen up the series

We're a little more than two weeks away from the release of Devil May Cry 5, and we still don't exactly know what to expect with the latest playable character, V. We've seen a glimpse into his playstyle here or there over the past few months, showing some of what the cane-wielding demon summoning bad boy can do.

Back in December, Capcom dropped a short gameplay trailer of V, giving us a peek at how he'll play. We saw the use of his familiars Griffon (a large bird who in the previous trailer seems to work as his moral compass), Shadow (a panther), and Nightmare (the massive golem).

Griffon will stick with ranged support, while Shadow will get up close and personal with enemies, morphing his body into various blades and other weaponry. Thanks to Giuseppe Nelva of Twinfinite.net, though, we're able to see what it will be like to play V.

Capcom recently revealed some extended gameplay of the newest character in the series during the most recent episode of the Capcom TV broadcast. Not only do we see V, but we're given a peek at some unique enemies in the game.

In the video above, we see V battle a new enemy reptilian beasts called Riot. Something new that we hadn't seen before is that his familiars are able to be incapacitated. After a few hits from enemies, we see both Griffon and Shadow get turned to dust with orbs floating above the piles, red for Shadow and blue for Griffon.

Thanks to the extended gameplay, we're able to see how the combined efforts of Griffon and Shadow will allow V to pick up some killer combos, along with dishing out some damage himself with his cane. However, we also got to see what the golem Nightmare was capable of.

The second video featured a boss battle against something called Proto Angelo along with his minions. While traveling with Nero, the duo is cut off by the boss and his lackeys, giving us a fight featuring two-out-of-three of the playable characters. Eventually, V brings out the big guns, summoning Nightmare to take out the trash.

Aside from pummeling everything in front of him into mush, Nightmare also fires out laser beams, leaving a trail of explosions wherever he was aiming. Unlike Griffon and Shadow, Nightmare is only a temporary summon, eventually disappearing after a little while. However, it seems that the cooldown on the ability isn't that long.

Devil May Cry 5 is set for release on March 8th, 2019, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
