Deadlock is an upcoming game from Valve that aims to be the next big thing in the online multiplayer space. The game mixes the concepts of MOBA and a hero shooter to give its players a unique experience. As of now, the game is in the beta stage, allowing only a limited number of players to play it. As a result, not every aspect of the game has been fully fleshed out yet.
As the game is available on PC, many players may wonder if it can be played using a controller. Like a lot of multiplayer games on PC, Valve's latest title does have controller support albeit with some shortcomings. That said, this article will provide all the details regarding Deadlock's controller support.
Controller support for Deadlock
While Deadlock does have controller support it has its own problems. Since the game is at an early beta stage, the developers are still ironing out the issues. They are most likely focused on improving the experience of mouse-and-keyboard players while taking their feedback. The beta does allow for a controller to be used, but the latter lacks enough buttons.

A traditional controller does not have enough buttons to map all the doable actions needed to play the game properly. It can be quite detrimental for a game that combines the concept of a MOBA and a hero shooter. Due to this, the experience of controller players ends up feeling severely challenging as they can't find proper impact during a match or even perform basic functions like leveling up their character. This is likely because the game was made keeping the Steam Deck controls in mind.
On top of that, there is also a lack of aim assist with controllers on Deadlock which puts the mouse-and-keyboard players at a huge advantage. While there are a few ways to make a controller somewhat work in-game, it will require the gyro controls to be enabled. However, since they essentially require the player to use the motion sensors, gyro controls can often end up feeling quite disorienting.
The controller might not seem usable in the beta stage but players can be assured that the developers will take note of it for the later versions of the game. As of now, the game is predicted to be released in late 2025. This gives the developers ample time to fix the controller issues. It will be interesting to see how the mouse-and-keyboard players match up against controller players in such a unique game.
