Can you play co-op multiplayer in Metaphor: ReFantazio?

Keeping in line with tradition, the upcoming game from SEGA and ATLUS is confirmed to be a purely single-player experience. No aspect of online or co-op is in place, nor has the publisher suggested any possibility of it. The studio has yet to dabble in multiplayer before and given that Metaphor: ReFantazio is a fairly traditional ATLUS JRPG, this upcoming title follows the same beaten path.

This also makes sense given the kind of game Metaphor: ReFantazio is. Being a turn-based title, players will command the protagonist and their party, eliminating the scope for any kind of multiplayer. Perhaps this will change in the future when ATLUS creates a game suitable for online play, but that is something to ponder for the future.

Taking place in the fictional United Kingdom of Euchronia, players control a young boy who must travel the land in search of a cure to save his close friend, the young prince. At the same time, the king's demise leaves the throne vacant, allowing anyone in the realm to compete to win public favor and grab the seat.

As if that was not enough, the hero awakens to a mysterious power that allows him and his allies to transform into powerful beings called Archetypes, which will be paramount in fighting against monstrous beasts called Humans. Taking much inspiration from Altus' past works like Persona 5, this grand adventure takes place across days and months, with the party traveling across the realm.

Gathering new allies, getting to know them better, and strengthening them form the basis of progression. The snappy turn-based combat also is very similar to the Press Turn or One More from the MegaTen titles, centered around strategic play by utilizing enemy weaknesses and buffing allies.

Metaphor: ReFantazio will launch on October 11, 2024, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S systems.
