Following the release of the Overwatch 2 Ultrawatch mega bundle in the in-game shop, the community was excited about the Hero skins inside the bundle. All three limited-time skins inside the bundle featuring Ultrawatch Cassidy, Ultrawatch Ana, and Cybervision Zarya are based on the retro Japanese superhero theme, available till July 9, 2024. According to the Blizzard pricing, players worldwide can purchase the ultimate bundle for 4100 Overwatch Coins.
Many netizens had speculated earlier that all Ultrawatch skins would be included in the Overwatch 2 Season 11 Battlepass. However, due to an unfortunate turn of events, the pass only contains Sojourn, Reaper, Wrecking Ball, and Genji’s Ultrawatch skins, obtained via purchasing the premium edition of the pass for 1000 Overwatch Coins.
While Cassidy and Zarya’s skins were introduced as Legendaries, fan-favorite Ana had only got Epic rarity to her name. As a result, many fans expressed their discontent over the disparity in the rarity of the Hero skins.
In a recent post in r/Overwatch (Overwatch 2’s official subreddit), one fan u/M_Knight_Shaymalan asked a question regarding this disparity by saying:

“Does Skin rarity really matter that much?”
An Overwatch 2 enthusiast, u/EarthDragon2189, explained how earlier the “rarity” factor used to matter because of the lootbox system in-game. Getting a Legendary skin inside the box was pretty rare back then.

That said, in this iteration of Overwatch, the developers have listed the rarity of the skin based on its pricing and the number of appearances in the in-game shop. They mentioned:
""Rarity" as a concept doesn't really exist anymore. It used to make sense in the old lootbox setup, where the rarest skins were theoretically the most ornate, but now there isn't really much of a system by which certain skins are more "rare" than others...except by how often they appear in the shop, I guess."
The user went on to say:
"The bottom line is that, now, "epic" and "legendary" don't really mean anything except as labels that define how much Blizzard wants to charge for something. So, as a roundabout way of answering your question, yes, the fact that Cass' skin is "legendary" makes it more expensive."
In reply to u/EarthDragon2189’s comment, u/YobaiYamete mentioned that the people behind Overwatch 2 have already mentioned how they set the rarity of these skins. Blizzard officials tend to list the skins based on how much the player base wants the skin and leans toward purchasing it.
Continuing the discussion over the rarity topic, u/AlingSword75 went vocal about their thoughts on the current legendary Hero skins, introduced by Blizzard. They mentioned how most of the player base, including them, slammed the company for overpriced skins in Overwatch 2.

Additionally, the company became notorious after releasing some recolored skins of Ana and Widowmaker, tagging them as Legendary to earn more funds. Hence, the Overwatch 2 community must think twice before spending real money on any skins in-game. The user commented:
"The main gripe people have about rarity nowadays is that Legendaries are overpriced. If you're talking about quality, then in my opinion not really, there are amazing epic skins and shitty legendary skins, so it really is up to personal opinion"
On the other hand, u/MrMagnetar mentioned that Blizzard didn’t include these three skins inside the Battle Pass in order to “scam” and earn more funds from the player base. Seeing the release trailer of Overwatch 2 Super Mega Ultrawatch, many players speculated that all the skins that appeared in the trailer might take place inside the pass.
That said, the company decided to add a handful of those skins, leaving two legendary (Cassidy and Zarya), and Epic Ana skins for external purchase.
In continuation of the monetary woe, u/SlightlyFemmegurl expressed their discontent about the Ultrawatch bundle, comparing it with the cowboy bebop crossover bundle. They mentioned how those crossover bundles provided many more in-game skins and cosmetics with a lower price of 2500 Overwatch Coins.
They suggested that Blizzard should focus on the quality of the skins they’re introducing on the skins rather than focusing on its pricing. They mentioned:
"Prices are inflated. You should have seen the bundles back with that cowboy bebop crossover. All bundles were 2500, yet some of them had 3 items and others had like 6 items. Mauga had if im not mistaken 3 items, 1 skin and a weapon charm and a souvenir. Two of them completely useless."
The user went on to say:
"Meanwhile Cass and Sombra had 5-6 items each, both of them had a highlight and emote and some other stuff. Blizzard just prices randomly."
Overwatch 2 community discusses disparity in rarity of Ultrawatch bundle skins
As mentioned previously, the community felt agitated following the release of the Overwatch 2 Ultrawatch Mega bundle. Many complained about Blizzard being inconsistent with their pricing policy of the in-game store exclusive skins, while others are satisfied with the pricing.
The previous iteration of Overwatch 2 had free skins that could be unlocked via loot box drops or enough grind. Additionally, the skins were more appealing to the community, featuring unique VFX and model changes. In contrast, the current version has a mixed structure, including recolored and some are distinct in terms of looks.
