With a (hopefully) final round of delay before Assassin's Creed Shadows is out of the oven, some are appreciative of the game getting the extra time it needs, while others are a bit disappointed with an even longer wait. Domino's Pizza, meanwhile, found it the perfect segue for free advertisement with some roasting on top.

On a facebook post on their official page, Dominos Pizza reposted the press report put out by Ubisoft regarding the month-long delay on Assassin's Creed Shadows, adding post-scriptum:

"call us if you need help delivering on time"

Domino's Pizza saw the perfect opportunity to poke fun at the cavalcade of delays Assassin's Creed Shadows has undergone. Originally, the game was supposed to come out on all platforms in November 2024. After multi-pronged backlashes inherent to the game, as well as the underperformance of Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft had opted to work on it further till the revised release date of Valentine's Day 2025.

This week, the studio further delayed the release date to March 20, 2025, citing the need for further polish. It would appear that Ubisoft indeed has had trouble delivering on time, with fans comparing Assassin's Creed Shadows' launch to the Cyberpunk 2077 fiasco.

In that light, Ubisoft's retort at Dominos' Pizza is less of a clapback and more of a reinstatement of the finalized release date:

"Hey Domino's Pizza pizza party on March 20th????"

All joshing on social media aside, the now further-delayed launch is a pivotal point at Ubisoft's very existence as a game-development company. The once-juggernaut of AAA gaming has undergone significant losses in the past few quarters. With speculations of outright liquidation on the line, it's likely the company will at least go through some corporate restructuring and corner-cutting to make it profit-ready again.

In a sense, the delay on Assassin's Creed Shadows may have done it more good than harm. The original post-announcment ire of community backlash against electing Yasuke as the protagonist for the next adventure has died down a bit since 2024. Furthermore, the latest delay sets it apart from a rather stacked February AAA pipeline of major releases.

There's some light at the end of the tunnel for the leftover Assassin's Creed enthusiasts. Ubisofts is doing some of the right moves to redress fan sentiments, including a free expansion for pre-order owners.

While a lot of the finer points of the game are pending discovery on release, here are some differences and similarities between Assassin's Creed Shadows and Valhalla, the last truly successful Ubisoft title in terms of sales figures.
