The recently released RPG title Dragon Age The Veilguard is available on a variety of platforms, including the Steam Deck. To make things better, Dragon Age The Veilguard runs natively on Steam — unlike previous EA titles — without connecting to EA Play. While this might sound like good news to Steam Deck users, there have been a few issues reported regarding the lack of keyboard and mouse support while playing Dragon Age The Veilguard.
This guide will help you resolve this issue by implementing a simple fix.
Dragon Age The Veilguard: How to connect keyboard and mouse on Steam Deck
Since its release in 2022, Steam Deck has claimed to run all games available on Steam. However, given its compact size and design, some games might perform a little worse than others due to issues like overheating and hardware limitations. Thankfully, Dragon Age Veilguard is Steam Deck-approved and runs smoothly on this handheld console.

Dragon Age The Veilguard's official developers wrote this a while back on the game's official news tab on Steam:
"We're making great progress towards our fall launch date and can confirm early that #DragonAge: The Veilguard is going all-in on @Steam features! ⚔️We're verified on Steam Deck. ⚔️We'll be Steam native - meaning the EA App will not be required to play the game."
Even though the game does run smoothly, some gamers have experienced issues while using the keyboard and mouse on Steam Deck. While Steam Deck does support a keyboard and mouse, the game might not be able to recognize these peripherals and end up using the default controller layout. The fix for this issue, however, is mentioned below:
- Open the Steam application on Steam Deck.
- Go to your Library and right-click on Dragon Age The Veilguard's game tile.
- Click on Properties and then on General.
- Under the Properties tab, at the end of the list will be Launch Options.
- Click on Launch Options and then edit it and paste this - "SteamDeck=0 %command% --skip- launcher."
Once you complete these steps, you can use the keyboard and mouse while playing Dragon Age Veilguard on Steam Deck. While you can play the game only on 720p in the handheld mode, you can play the game on both 1080p and 4K in the docked mode. However, do note that while Steam Deck supports cross-progression, the game does not.
