Dragon Age The Veilguard's skill tree is divided into several sections that will allow you to craft a build based on your playstyle. The level cap of the game is 50, meaning you can obtain the same number of skill points. Your rook will level up from the XP points you gain from various activities, notably quests, which will give you the most experience. Each level will also increase your HP bar.

All nodes in Dragon Age The Veilguard Skill progression system

You can place your skill points in each node to upgrade your combat prowess even further. Here are all the nodes that you need to keep an eye out for:

  • Large Circle: Class (core skills and weapon proficiencies)
  • Diamond: Ability (can be assigned to an Ability slot)
  • Medium Circle: Major Passive or Ability Upgrade (adds effects or modifies existing Abilities or stats, like guaranteeing a critical hit on knockdown or extending range)
  • Small Hexagon: Trait (modifies existing class skill, like counter-attack, extending an attack combo or missile block/return)
  • Small Circle: Minor Passive or Stat Boost (increases the efficacy of Abilities, Passive, or stats)

Each class will have access to three combat specializations, which you can unlock using your skill points. Keep in mind that the Veilguard does not restrict your specialization to the faction you choose. So, you can create your specific playstyle no matter what your faction is.

There are a ton of gears and accessories that you can find while exploring the wilds in The Veilguard. At times, you will come across duplicate items that you can use to power up the ones you have equipped.

You can upgrade each piece of gear up to 10 times by visiting the Caretaker in The Lighthouse. By increasing the Caretaker's level, you can unlock more powerful armor enchantments that will give you the edge during a battle.

The rook can equip up to nine pieces of equipment.

  • Main Hand
  • Off-Hand
  • Alternate Weapon
  • Helmet
  • Armor
  • Belt
  • Amulet
  • Ring 1
  • Ring 2

Every piece comes with unique stats, rarities, and properties tied to the progression system.

Note that your choice of faction will not have any effect on any gear you own in Dragon Age The Veilguard. Similar to skill progression, you can apply the look of any equipment you own to the other. Since it will only be a cosmetic change, your stats will remain the same.

Companions in the game also have their own set of unique skill trees and gear items that tie to their progression system in the game. While rook can equip up to nine pieces of equipment, your party member can get up to four. They also have access to their own set of skill trees, which is something you should keep in mind while creating your build.

Having the proper skills for your companions will allow you to synergize your attacks together, making tougher encounters a bit less challenging. Similar to your own, you can upgrade and make cosmetic changes for your companions in the Lighthouse as well.
