Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake’s first real boss is the deadly Robbin Ood and his band of merry men. Stealing the crown of Romaria, it’s up to you to get it back. In the original Famicom/NES game it was optional, but in future remakes it was made mandatory. It’s likely that way here, so get ready to fight a hard-hitting group of bandits!
We tackled him during our final preview of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, and while I made him look easy, I have lots of experience fighting these goons. Here’s what you need to know if you’re going to beat up these thieves.

Tips to beat Robbin’ Ood in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake
When you arrive at Robbin' Ood in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, he will send you packing back down to the previous floor. Head back up and you’ll see he’s gone! Just grab his treasures (Skull Ring, Ruby Wristband), and walk off the right side of the map. You’ll drop down right where this thug is trying to make his escape.
You have to fight Robbin' Ood, and his three Robbin Oodlums, and since they’re separate units, you can’t AOE them, unless you have spells like Bang. I used Hero, Warrior, Pilgrim and Wizard for this fight, though there are other options without a doubt.
Since the Warrior was likely to get hit, I used Cop Out first to try and deflect attacks, while the Pilgrim cast Sap on Robbin Ood, and the Wizard used Kabuff to increase the part’s defenses. These guys can hit hard, so make sure you use your buffs, like Kabuff and Acceleratle. We used Flame Slash on the hero and Mercurial Thrust on the Warrior in later turns.
However, since I did have Bang for this fight, I used it in future turns on Robbin Ood and his men in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. I feel it’s important to take out his men first, but they don’t have a ton of HP. Flame Slash, Mercurial Thrust, Bang and Sap make this a relatively easy fight.
The Robbin Oodlums are weak to Explosion Magic, so they’ll take in the ballpark of 30 damage a hit. Between the Boomerang and Bang, you can leave the Warrior to focus on Robbin Ood himself if you prefer. He doesn’t have any fancy tricks, but he can crit (Desperate Attack), and those hurt a lot. Keep him Sapped and smash him down.
Once that’s over with, forgive him for his crimes or not—that’s up to you—and return the crown to Romaria. You haven’t seen the last of Robbin Ood in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake that’s for sure.
You’ll have a little interlude here, where you become King of Romaria briefly, but you can’t progress until you go to the Monster Arena and return the crown to the King. Enjoy this comical moment, but get ready for serious business again! You have a world to save.
