Parrying enemy attacks requires you to perfectly block an incoming blow. Doing it successfully will block the attack and allow you to dish out a counterattack that will deal damage to both your adversary’s HP and their Fortitude Gauge. It will also stagger them for a while, opening a window of opportunity for you to go on offense.

You will parry attacks only if you opt to block the incoming blow when it is about to land on you. Doing this early will instead just block the attack and won’t perform the counterattack that deals damage. The Spear also gives you an ability that automatically parries attacks and performs a counterattack called Piercing Vengeance. Use your Bravery to activate it, and it will automatically do the job for you in case you are having a hard time mastering the parry ability.

Keep in mind that certain attacks will require you to dodge or use battle arts to deal with as parrying won’t help here. Below is a list of everything that can help you determine enemy attack patterns.
