The 2023-24 season was Chelsea's 118th year and their 35th consecutive season in the Premier League, England’s top-tier competition. The season began with big changes, including long-time captain Cesar Azpilicueta’s move to Atletico Madrid after 11 seasons. Reece James, a product of Chelsea’s academy, was named the new club captain when things kicked off in July 2023.

Under Mauricio Pochettino’s management, Chelsea had a rough start, passing through early title hopes. However, they showed their strength in cup competitions, reaching the EFL Cup final and finishing as runners-up to Liverpool. They also made it to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

The second half of the season saw a remarkable turnaround, with Chelsea losing only one of their last 15 league matches from February to May 2024. This impressive run boosted their ranking on the league table, and they finished in sixth place, securing a spot in European football for the next season.

Despite this late surge and positive momentum, Pochettino left the club by mutual consent on May 21, 2024, after less than a year in charge.
