City's previous season was good. Despite a few major losses, their achievements have been commendable. Their season kicked off on August 6, 2023, with a third unfortunate Community Shield defeat in succession to Arsenal.

Only ten days later, though, on August 16, City captured their first trophy of the campaign as they won their inaugural UEFA Super Cup, beating Sevilla via a penalty shoot-out following a 1-1 extra-time draw.

Their journey in the League Cup ended on September 27, with a third-round exit at the hands of Newcastle United following a 1-0 away loss. Yet, City bounced back impressively on December 22, defeating Fluminense 4-0 in the Club World Cup final to claim the title for the first time. This made them the first English club to hold five major domestic and international titles at the same time.

City's defense of the Champions League continued until the quarter-final stage. On April 17, 2024, they were knocked out by Real Madrid, following a penalty shoot-out after the match had ended as 4-4 on aggregate. This was the third time that they would be eliminated in the knockout stages by the Spanish club.

In the Premier League, Manchester City made history by defending their league title for the fourth year in a row, the first English club to achieve this. The title race was of another intense duration, once again having a close battle against Arsenal.
