EA FC 25 TOTY: Does Erling Haaland deserve to be in the Team of the Year?

Erling Haaland is considered one of the best strikers in the English Premier League (EPL). Therefore, it's quite evident that the 24-year-old has been nominated for EA FC 25 TOTY. The Norwegian goal-scoring machine had a stellar 2023/24 campaign in the domestic league, helping his club to win their fourth EPL title. On top of that, he put up a decent performance in the UEFA Nations League B by scoring seven goals in six matches. However, his recent streak of inconsistencies might affect his position in the Team of the Year starting XI.

When it comes to the virtual pitch, Erling Haaland is the top-rated striker from the Premier League featuring a 91-rated (overall) player card along with other flashy attributes across the board. He even has the Poacher++ player role and the Acrobatic+ playstyle.

Erling Haaland might not be in the starting 11 of the EA FC 25 TOTY

As mentioned, Erling Haaland had an incredible 2023/24 season, helping Manchester City lift their fourth EPL title. He contributed 27 goals in 31 appearances last season. The reigning champs even started the 2024/25 campaign on the front foot, with the Norwegian striker contributing 16 goals in 20 matches so far. However, his performance has taken a dip in recent games.

To be very precise, Erling Haaland has never shown his true colors in big matches against top-tier clubs, though his presence in the opponent's final third can be very threatening. Moreover, even though he put up a decent performance in the UEFA Nations League B, it wasn't something to write home about. Hence, he might not have done enough to be a part of the EA FC 25 TOTY roster.

While Erling Haaland did get into the starting 11 of 2024's Team of the Year, he was the 12th man in the FIFA 23 TOTY roster. This time around, he will face even tougher competition as the other contenders like Mohamed Salah, Vinicius Junior, Lamine Yamal, Lautaro Martinez, and others have been phenomenal at both domestic and international levels.

While Vinicius Junior won the FIFA Men's Best Player award and came second on the 2024 Ballon d'Or list, Lautaro Martinez had a phenomenal 2023/24 season. He was the top scorer in Serie A and also won the Copa America with his international team Argentina.

On the other hand, Mohamed Salah is currently the top scorer and has the most assists in the EPL 2024/25 season. Many netizens are even considering him as the next Ballon d'Or contender, though it's too soon to say for certain.

Another popular nominee, Lamine Yamal, won the Kopa trophy for his phenomenal performance in EURO 2024 and his contributions to his club. However, he's most likely to secure the 12th man spot.

These aforementioned TOTY nominees could stop Erling Haaland from getting a sport in the TOTY starting XI. However, it ultimately depends on the votes cast by fans.
