The first post-release update following the release of Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, version 1.12.2, is now live on all platforms. This update not only addresses one of the major complaints players had with the DLC since its release but also makes some small changes to the performance-related issues in the PC version of the expansion.

Unlike the previous title update, 1.12.2 is simply a "calibration" update, something that's akin to a hotfix, and adds some minor balance-related changes to the game as well as slight stability/performance improvements. Shadow of the Erdtree has overall been a success for FromSoftware, with the expansion being the highest-rated DLC to date.

However, upon its release, the DLC did receive some criticism from players, mostly geared towards its difficulty. The latest hotfix addresses that criticism with some minor tweaks to the Scadutree and Revered Spirit Ash Blessings system.

Elden Ring 1.12.2 official patch notes

The previous major update for Elden Ring, which was released a day before Shadow of the Erdtree's release, version 1.12, added a plethora of balance-related changes, including some major weapon and Ash of War nerfs. However, update 1.12.2 doesn't feature any balance-related changes. Instead, it simply increases the effectiveness of the "Blessings" in the DLC.

Apart from that, FromSoftware has also identified and confirmed a bug on the PC version that might've been the root cause for the game's poor performance.

Here are the official patch notes for Elden Ring update 1.12.2:

Calibration Update 1.12.2 change list

The attack and damage negation curve scaling of the Shadow Realm Blessings has been revised.

  • The attack and damage negation has been increased for the first half of the maximum amount of Blessing enhancements, and the second half will now be more gradual.
  • The attack and damage negation granted by the final level of Blessing enhancements has been slightly increased.

FromSoftware recommends checking your Graphics Settings on the PC version of the game, to see if ray-tracing has been enabled by default or not. Since the last update, there's a bug that causes ray-tracing to get enabled if you load into a previous version save, which ends up resulting in degraded performance.

You can access the Ray-tracing settings by going to SYSTEM > Graphics Settings > Raytracing Quality. Do note that the update 1.12.2 is a Regulation update, hence, to install it, you will need to launch the game in Online mode.
