Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree features what are easily some of the most challenging boss fights in the entire game. One such boss that players can fight pretty early in the DLC is Rellana, Twin Moon Knight. Although optional, Rellana is easily one of the most fascinating and engaging boss encounters in Elden Ring's latest DLC, at least in the early parts of it.

Not only does the boss look incredibly cool, but she is also one of the very few bosses who have direct connections to the characters of the base game. As the name might suggest, Rellana is the elder sister of Renalla and a valiant knight who uses both Carian sorcery and flames of Messmer to imbue her weapons with elemental properties.

And unlike Renalla, Rellana isn't easy to defeat. In fact, she is probably the biggest roadblock players will face during their journey through the early sections of the Realm of Shadow. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to easily defeat Rellana, Twin Moon Knight in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

The battle against Rellana consists of a single phase, but with multiple different attack types, that keep on changing as the boss' health drops under certain thresholds. Her way of wielding and usage of twin blades feels quite reminiscent of Pontiff Sulyahn of Dark Souls 3, who also used dual elemental blades as her primary weapon.

As a magic user, Rellana is quite resistant to elemental attacks. However, she is very prone to poise-break, which, if you're using a pure-strength build, can exploit to get multiple critical attacks in the first half of the battle. Unfortunately, once Rellana's health drops to 50%, she becomes way more agile and starts using AOE projectile attacks.

One of these AOE attacks, which does have a very long telegraph, can easily one-shot you, even if your Vigor stat is at 60. Thankfully, there's an easy way to avoid that attack. Here are a few tips that should help you defeat Rellana, Twin Moon Knight in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree:

  • Make sure you have upgraded your defense and attack power to at least +3 using the Scadutree Fragments before you fight Rellana. Doing so will allow you to deal more damage, and also stagger the boss much more easily.
  • While it is possible to defeat Rellana solo, I do recommend using the Mimic Tear or Tiche Spirit Ash, just to give you enough breathing room to heal or charge your incantations.
  • Rellana always starts the battle with a charged thrust attack, followed by a twin-blade sweep, which can easily take your max HP to half.
  • The best way to avoid this attack is either using the Opaline Bubbletear or chaining three dodges and then a delayed fourth dodge as soon as you see the boss charging toward you.
  • Once Rellana's health drops to 50% she will charge up a spell that summons two moons, identical to Renalla's Full Moon. These moons instantly crash to the ground causing a massive AOE, one after another, followed by a third wave via Rellana's own ground slam.
  • This attack can easily one-shot you if you're running a low-vigor build. However, there's a very easy way to avoid getting hit by this AOE attack.
  • All you need to do is unlock the camera from Rellana as soon as you see her charging the spell and jump twice right before the two moons land, followed by a delayed jump right before Rellana comes crashing down.
  • If you inflict enough damage on the boss in this phase, you won't have to deal with the twin moon attack again in the entire battle.

Once Rellana, Twin Moon Knight is defeated, you will be rewarded with her Remembrance, which lets you unlock either Rellana's Twin Moons spell or Rellana's Twinblade. Additionally, at Enia in the Roundtable Hold, you can unlock Renalla's armor set as well, which is easily one of the coolest new outfits in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.
