Spirit Ashes are one of the most helpful tools in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. If you find yourself struggling in a particular area or with a boss fight, you can use one of many Spirit Ashes to call in some support and make things easier for yourself. However, not every Spirit Ash is good enough to help you pull through in battle.
Some Spirit Ashes are extremely strong, while others are frail and have no impact in battle. To help you pick the right one, we have classified all Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree into various tiers.

S Tier
- Horned Warrior
- Jolan and Anna
Horned Warrior is equipped with a massive sword that gives him incredible range, and he has a moveset that allows him to do almost 3–6 attacks without rest. Moreover, his damage numbers are so good that he can take down almost any enemy in the game. Horned Warrior also has a ton of health and poise, making him the best Spirit Ash in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.
Jolan and Anna are perhaps the best Spirit Ash in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. The only reason it isn't the definitive best is because you will miss out on the Sword of Night if you get this Spirit Ash. Jolan and Anna are extremely strong in battle and have a decent amount of blood buildup, allowing them to eat up almost anyone's HP.
You can even summon this Spirit Ash and let it run wild. More often than not, using Jolan and Anna will lead to an easy win, making this one of the best summons in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.

A Tier
- Divine Bird Warrior Ornis
- Taylew the Golem Smith
- Fingercreeper Divine
- Ancient Dragon Florissax
Bird Warrior Ornis is easily one of the best spirit ashes in the game. It has a fast-hitting combo that can deal with multiple enemies at once. Moreover, Ornis has a ton of poise, making his attacks extremely hard to stop. If you sit back and let him handle business, he will easily take down a bunch of foes. If Ornis had more HP, this spirit ash would be higher up the list.
The only thing bad about Taylew the Golem Smith is that it costs 138 FP to summon him. But if you're not planning on using a ton of spells, it is well worth the cost. He is a literal tank and will not go down in battle. Tawley can tank thousands of points of damage and even dole out 1-2k damage of his own, making him an excellent Spirit Ash. His poor speed holds him back from the S tier.
The Fingercreeper Spirit Ash is an absolute tank and will draw your enemies' aggression, leaving them open to attacks from you. What's even better is that this Spirit Ash occasionally uses a spell that recovers the HP of both you and your summon. The Fingercreeper is so high up this list due to how notoriously difficult it is to take this Spirit Ash down, if it did more damage in combat, this would've been the best Spirit Ash in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.
Ancient Dragon Florisaxx is relentless with its aggression and will continue to take the fight to your enemies. However, this Spirit Ash can't deal a lot of damage which holds it back. Regardless, Florisaxx can make enemies more susceptible to lightning damage, which is incredible if you're using weapons like the Twinaxe or Bolt of Gransax in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.
B Tier
- Demi-Human Swordsman Yosh
- Curseblade Meera
Demi-Human Swordsman Yosh can run circles around your enemies if you're lucky with the AI. He runs around the battlefield, teleporting between steps, to deliver devastating combos. If luck is on your side, he can do tons of damage. However, Yosh is a little too easy to stun lock, which brings him down to the B tier.
Curseblade Meera is almost on par with Yosh and has insane damage potential. However, Meera is a red-eyed summon, meaning she will not follow you around and will start battles you don't want to participate in. If Meera had been a normal summon, this Spirit Ash would rank higher up the list. She's still useful, but only in enclosed areas.

C Tier
- Fire Knight Queelign
- Gravebird
- Bigmouth Imp
- Fire Knight Hilde
- Messmer Soldier
Fire Knight Queelign isn't anything special and suffers from the same weaknesses as the Black Knight Spirit Ash in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. However, with a bit of luck, Queelign can string together a bunch of moves that can deal up to 1–1.5k damage. But this Spirit Ash's poor poise makes this a rare occurrence. If it wasn't so simple to stun lock Queelign, it would be higher up the list.
The only thing the Gravebird has going for it is the fact that it can fly around, allowing it to dodge attacks. However, the Gravebird will often become stationary, making it incredibly easy for your enemies to bring this Spirit Ash back to the ground. It uses Ghostflame to deal damage, but it is not strong enough to have an impact. You're better off using this summon against fodder enemies.
The Bigmouth Imp is capable of dealing an impressive amount of damage thanks to the fact that it has a cannon for a mouth. However, if you summon this Spirit Ash, make sure to do it from a distance. If enemies close in on the Bigmouth Imp, it becomes quite useless. But, as long as you use this Spirit Ash as a ranged option, it can produce decent results.
Fire Knight Hilde can produce wonderful results, but only if you're fighting right alongside your summon. Hilde uses a greatsword and wields fire to deal a ton of damage, but if you leave this summon to its own devices, it will succumb to a few hits from your enemies. If Hilde had a bit more HP and poise, this Spirit Ash would be higher up the list.
The Messmer Soldier Spirit Ash summons two soldiers, one comes with an axe in hand, while the other makes use of a spear. If they work together, these two soldiers can deal with a bunch of smaller foes. However, all it takes is one hard-hitting enemy to put them in their place. They do a decent amount of damage, but their low health and poise can lead to a quick death.

D Tier
- Black Knight Commander Andreas
- Black Knight Captain Huw
- Bloodfiend Hexer
- Inquisitors
- Man-Fly
- Spider Scorpion
For someone with such good weapons, Black Knight Commander Andreas is a liability in combat. This spirit ash is notorious for how easily Andreas gets stun-locked. Your opponents can just pummel this summon to ash by repeatedly landing blows. Even when you get lucky and Andreas lands an attack, his damage is nothing special.
Black Knight Captain Huw is even worse than Andreas in some ways. This spirit summon cares little about preserving its life, which is terrible since Huw can't even compete with Andreas in combat. He is easy to stun lock, and even fodder enemies can wipe the floor with him. If you're lucky, Huw can land a couple of combos for about 1k damage before dying.
Bloodfiend Hexer seems strong, but looks can be quite deceiving. While the Hexer gives off the impression that he's strong, he can be stun-locked with ease. If it wasn't for all the HP this Spirit Ash has, it would be mostly useless. However, Bloodfiend can do a little bit of damage if left unchecked by your enemies, which makes him a little better than Andreas and Huw.
The Inquisitors are easily the most useless Spirit Ash in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. They don't deal any damage and die in a few hits from almost any enemy. Even when enemies ignore Inquisitors, their attacks don't deal enough damage to be any kind of threat. You're better off not using this Spirit Ash in battle until it gets buffed.
Using this Spirit Ash summons three Man-Flies. You would think that their numbers would allow them to make an impact in battle. However, they are incredibly easy to take down and don't do enough damage to bother anyone. You should only use this Spirit Ash if you want a quick distraction on the field.
The Spider Scorpion is incredibly frail and does no real amount of damage. If you're lucky, this summon might poison an enemy or two. However, more often than not, the Spider Scorpion will be taken out in just a couple of hits, which means you can't even use it as a decent distraction.
