Eternights aims to break away from the traditional dating sim format by incorporating action-adventure gameplay. What is Eternights about?
"Eternights," announced during the June 2022 State of Play, is a planned hack-and-slash JRPG focused on combat and dating. The "Persona"-inspired game, developed by Studio Sai, aims to fill the void left by the announcement of "Persona 6." According to the Steam description, something transforms humanity into monsters bent on destruction and bloodshed. You are entrusted with battling them, finding a cure, and safeguarding people you care about during the world's end.
What will the Eternights gameplay be like?
The main character battles a gigantic foe with his magical arm, which transforms into a sword. It's unclear from the teaser, but multiple button prompts appeared on-screen during the battle, suggesting attack combinations or implying the rare quick-time event. Most of the confrontations involve a single enormous adversary. Thus, it needs to be clarified how many enemies you'll face simultaneously.
Investing in your connections with the supporting cast improves their fighting abilities, allowing them to use more spells and talents. Traps, riddles, and dance mini-games will challenge players as they practice, explore dungeons, and level up. In the reveal video, the player character rides a motorbike down a tunnel, implying that there may be more methods to explore the dungeons besides on foot.
What can we expect from Eternight?
A tiny handful of individuals are left to try to heal humanity. The main character loses his right arm in a fight but develops a luminous replacement. Sia, Yuna, Min, and Yohan are four minor characters. Sia, Yuna, and Min look to be dateable, but there needs to be more Yohan.
Storytelling moments combine 3D sequences with speech options and 2D-painted anime visuals. The fast-paced and detailed clip includes furious bouts showcasing weapons and abilities, school and tube interludes, and peaceful, romantic moments.
What platforms will get Eternights?
Studio Sai has confirmed that "Eternights" will be released for PS4, PS5, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store sometime in early 2023. One Twitter user also shared a screenshot of a DM they claimed to have received from a developer, which said "Eternights" would make its way to both Xbox and Nintendo Switch sometime after launch, although no time frame for that was confirmed.
