The worldwide launch of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is kicking up quite the storm online, with netizens celebrating its release. To this extent, a wide assortment of delectable memes have been generated. One such meme from user Westy30J on the official EldenRing subreddit goes on to state:

The meme references a classic Spider-Man quote from Norman Osborn, which has been modified to read:

“You know, I’m something of a New Zealand citizen myself.”

This is, of course, a reference to the usual trope of console players in New Zealand gaining access to games before the rest of the world—something that's expected to follow suit in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree as well.

The post has since gained immense traction, with multiple users chiming in with witty replies and their takes on the situation.

MohgLovesMiquella responds with a solid argument, stating,

“Everyone on the damn planet should be able to play at the same time”

This rant is somewhat justified since many players can be left feeling “left out” by not having early access to the game - simply due to the “inconvenience” of time zones.

LeadComfortable9362 has expressed their doubts about the method, asking if it really works. This was confirmed by other users confirmed it, adding excitement to the community.

“gotta take advantage of it”

This confirms the immense hype surrounding the Elden Ring DLC expansion that has been generated in recent weeks.

Multiple users have also taken a jab at the situation, addressing their fellow New Zealand players as “fellow Kiwis,” confirming their interest in changing time zones to play early but as impostors.

The statements are light-hearted and in jest, and are a great representation of the community’s interest (and creativity) towards the game in general.

Is it worth switching time zones to play Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree early?

Note: This part of the article is subjective and reflects the author’s opinions.

Switching regions to get early access to a game is not exactly new, and has been a common exploit for years. However, switching to and from regions on an existing console installation of Elden Ring can be quite cumbersome for most.

It's perhaps better to wait a few extra hours to be able to officially play the DLC, instead of bothering with the workaround; the game isn’t going anywhere, after all. Note that the chances of being banned while using this workaround are non-existent, so players are ultimately free to do as they please.
