Sony officially bought Haven Studios in 2022 but they have been working on a "new IP" for PlayStation since 2021, and it appears that this is the project they have been eagerly awaiting to show off. That has manifested itself in the shape of FAIRGAME$, and people who are reminded of games like Payday and Watch Dogs are not alone. While there appear to be parallels based on the cinematic teaser, it will (hopefully) blend components to create a novel concept.
What is Fairgame$ about?
Fairgame$, the debut release from Haven Studios, is billed as a fresh, modern twist on the heist genre. The game is described as an exciting competitive heist game in which players join an underground movement to loot the ultra-rich and balance the scales. It was unveiled during the PlayStation Showcase and is set to provide a new multiplayer gaming experience.
Gamers can launch furious, audacious heists with their friends while competing for money with other players in the same arena. There are echoes of games like Watch Dogs, however, Fairgame$ is not a clone of Watch Dogs. Instead, it's an innovative competitive heist game in which players employ a variety of amusing tools and gadgets to rob the wealthy.
Fairgame$ gameplay
There's a lot to take in in the brief overview, from factions and teams clothed in unique clothing to a wide range of powers that suggest this may be a 'hero shooter' of sorts. There are smoke screens, grapple hooks, deployable shields, and various weapons, the majority of which appear to be non-lethal for some reason.
It's all about amassing as much money as possible and then escaping with the stash, evading other players or challenging them to steal what they've got. There are AI opponents to contend with, as well as security measures that alter with each game, bringing the previously mentioned emergent sandbox atmosphere into play.
Aside from that, little is known about the gameplay. When the reveal trailer contains no gameplay, you know there's still a long way to go in development. Mathieu Leduc, creative director at Haven Studios, spoke about Fairgame$ on the PlayStation Blog but provided no release date.
“For now, we are heads down and focused on bringing Fairgame$ to life and we will share more as soon as we can,” Leduc wrote.

What platforms will Fairgame$ be released on?
Fairgame$ will be available on PC and PS5. The Sony-owned team's live-service multiplayer game will not be available on Xbox. There's also no information on whether it'll be published on PS5 first, followed by PC. Furthermore, there has been no word about whether it is going to be a PlayStation exclusive or be made available on other consoles in the future.
When will Fairgame$ be released?
The unveiling trailer was only a cinematic trailer and did not reveal anything about the game. If the game truly retains the tone established by the trailer, the world could be in for a treat. However, no release date for FAIRGAME$ has been set as of yet, though many predict it to arrive in 2024.
